It's a lot nicer catching them from shore in 60 degrees!

The growth rate for perch in that lake seems to be zero.

That is what I was afraid of...but still edible.  Thanks.

Dang, size isn't looking any better, eh? That's ok, still makes for a good fish fry.

I really wonder why that is?  Just selective pressure from fishing, and not really using a slot? Or if there's a biological reason, with forage or genetics in that lake. Or both.

I can't see there being much pressure.  Almost no open water perch and few ice fisherman, too.  They were like 8.5-9 inches last year.  They don't grow as fast as you think.  They might be 9.5 this year.  Not much variation in size - all from crop that survived the draining of the lake a few (don't remember when) years ago.  Should be forage for them - water is even up into the weeds.  Just some thoughts.  I don't have the answer except that I am hungry for perch tacos!

From my non-scientific sampling over the past decade-ish, their size has not changed at all over that time.  You will catch the random larger one, but most are cookie cutter clones.  Oh... Slayer..  you might want to take a chainsaw in the first trip.  There are a few blow-downs that will make the upper trail a little exciting with any sort of snow.   @)

I am not afraid!

Back 10 years ago perch size was larger and a LOT more people ice fished it then.  On a sunday there'd be 20-30 people out there and everybody had a big pile of perch.  They need to be thinned out-

Agreed...I promise to do MY part!!   ;D
That lake needs pike or smallies...or both.  There are already smallies in the Poudre, just sayin.

You would be amazed what's swimming around in there.  The browns do their part and I'm sure the cats do too.  I've heard rumors of bass but no confirmation.

Slayer tells me there are bullheads.  Bullheads eating perch...  Like to get into those...   Wish we could keep more than 20.  Have to take my son along or recruit another kid in the neighborhood to join in.

Nice.  No limit on those.  And a perch jigging-rap in its mouth. Priceless.

Should have seen it back in the late 70's and early 80's when it was private, and only the friends of the lake caretaker, (me),  that lived in the house off the southeast dam could fish there! My buddies dad still has a 28" Brownie on the wall from then. We would catch 10-14 inch perch and throw them back cause we wanted a big trout! Those big trout took care of the stunted perch for sure. Now, after being almost drained twice its never been the same.
There's time to sleep when your dead....let's go fishin'!!!!
