My First Ice, 2017: Success!
« on: Nov 19, 2017, 07:00 PM »
We recently discussed why people ice fish:  THIS is why.  Solitude, excitement, beauty.
It wasn't even about the fish today.

Successful first trip for my new truck, handled the 4-wheel road and snow like a champ.  Solo hike up to the lake.  Beautiful Colorado day.  No trophies were caught today, but each fish was an accomplishment.  My ice fishing season 2017-18 is underway!

Nice new Ford, good start to the snow cover, cold but not too cold, blowing some cobwebs out your lungs, fish on the ice. Got a feeling you'll sleep as a happy man tonight.
We're born, we live for a while, and then we die.  Sounds like a good reason to go ice fishing.

Love it when you CO members post pics of your mtn lakes because it's like viewing some of the mtn lakes here in my area of MT. It's amazing how similar the areas are. The peaks, ridgelines, shorelines, alpine trees & even the shapes of the lakes. I believe you guys have some altitude on us, but nonetheless the characteristics are the same. Great pics.....Thanks for sharing !!

How far did you have t hike and how was Ice thickness?
Ever ice the other side of the ridge at the other 2 lakes?
I may try those lakes with my quad but I'm almost always solo
She any info to give me a little encouragement?😛

Didn't take my truck all the way up, parked about a mile away and hiked the rest.  I would say any more snow and a quad would be better even to get up to that lake.  Never iced the other two.

Ice was about 4-6 inches, but not the hardest or clearest I've seen.  Definitely didn't make me feel bold enough to go wandering the entire lake. Stayed close to the dam.

For sure!  Always good to have a few people early ice for the sketch factor.  I won't be heading up that way till next year, though.   ;)

Thanks!  Yeah, it's a great hike and fun spot to fish.  Slimers are one thing, but I'm looking forward to perch, too!
