Rod Holders for Humminbird Ice 35/45/55 Flashers

Has anybody added rod holders to these units? I have the the Ice 45 with the Carrying case and I was thinking of somehow cutting a couple small slits in the carrying case and somehow zip tying about a 3" section of pvc pipe to the handle. Any ideas?
