Vegtable Soup
« on: Nov 12, 2017, 09:22 AM »
Well here is my Mothers old Recipe for Vegetable soup. Made it last night. Sure brought back some very fond memories. 2 lbs Cheap Beef, 1 Big Soup bone or several smaller ones, 2 cans Tomatoes, 1/2 of a good sized head of Cabbage chopped, 4 Big Potatoes diced, 6 Carrots diced, 2 Big Onions diced, Salt, Pepper, and Garlic powder to taste. You can brown the soup bones or not. Then put in pot and cover with water. Bring to boil, then turn down to simmer for 3 hours. Remove soup bones and add all the rest of the ingredients. Simmer till potatoes are done. I like to cook it all day. Then let it cool and put in the refrigerator. Then cook it the next day. Yummy!
Flags up! Bobbers down!

That's very similar to my grandmas mennonite borscht. Yummy! I like to add a dollop of sour cream to the bowl of soup and a splash of malt vinegar.
The more I fish, the less I know about fishing...
Send me a PM if you'd like info about how I built my ice shack

I do a similar recipe, I have decided that when I do a soup with cabbage I prefer cauliflower instead of potatoes. Use potatoes in most of the soup/stews that I do, the cauliflower is kind of a nice change of pace.
Keep,it,safe! JDL
