I have a buddy whose grandfather makes really cool rods, he's not on the internet though. I'll see if I can get a number for you. In the meantime came across "Patriot Custom Rods".

The Reel People in Interlochen Michigan make custom rods according to their website.

They have worked on some of my reels and did a nice job.

Here is their web site:

I use to tournament fish for bass, had very expensive rod and reels. For ice fishing is just havent had the need for custom or expensive rod and reels. Just curious if others feel it truly makes a difference?

IMO it is not about catch rates it is solely about feel. A lot of rods just have a dead feel to me. I really like a pronounced feel of every headshake and surge. Also a custom ice rod will not cost a lot, at least in comparison to your tournament type rods.

I have 3 UL long rods from Patriot (2 54" and 1 58").  They are great for hole hopping and being able to stand while fishing instead of sitting on a bucket or kneeling on the ice.  They were around 50.00 each, which is more than I spend on most ice rods, but well worth it.  They have caught 1000's of gills over the years.

I too have a couple of Patriots UL's (43 and 48). I think they are a good value well built rod!I should have added that earlier but didn't since they had already been mentioned. My bad!
