that's what my guess was too.about the same time the 4"mora hand auger blades were discontinued.its hard to find those too.
What's funny is how companies claim blades can't be resharpened today.......yet on these old packages it shows/tells a guy how to touch them up...............just kinda sad how much money and profits have changed things from back then.........,
I hit sand with my 6" Ion last weekend...threw a huge burr, and dinged an edge. Used a ran them over a coarse and then fine stone and made sure I pressed the blades down flat on the angles...they cut like new now, dings and all. Makes me laugh when they recommend replacements.
Yeah.....I called clam to see if they had a gear box for a gen 2 plate or if I could get a new plate and gear box......claimed they didn't make any for sale this year.......something is a bit off.
Regardless what everyone says about availability just think about it. The Milwaukee drill delivers 1200 InLbs of torque. Thats 100 FootPounds of torque. The 8" Lazer bits will need that + when they break through. After 10 or 50 or 200 holes the $70 China gearbox will fail, when your on the trip of a lifetime.A $70 product has Profit for the Seller, profit for Clam, and profit for the company that made it along with getting it from there to here. Probably $10-$15 actual manufacturing cost.I'm thinking someone at Clam has realized the folly of the, first plastic gears then steel (probably made from dredged up sunken trash). Clam's productshave been on the upswing the last 2 years and hopefully someone there with a brain has realized this product will not make our customers happy a few years from now.Of Course, as always, My Opinion Only
well I found the mythical mora 10" beast auger today at a garage sale.offset foldable handle too.probably needs some blades and a blade cover but for 5 bucks i couldnt pass it up! anybody have or leads to blades or a cover let me know, imgur and post image wont let me post pics for some reason from my laptop but phone worked.
That's an interesting handle setup. Did they come like that back then or is it a DIY job?
I found one on Craigslist not too long ago and posted it on here for whomever was looking for one. Looks like you could just sharpen those blades. They don't look too bad in the picture.
Use a 2 1/2 gallon bucket with a bungee cord to cover the blades
that would work but im ocd about my gear being original or oem.lol.plus i like the thrill of the chase/ search for hard to find items.
Not sure why you would want to use a 10 inch on a drill. This would really put the drill through a severe work out.
We need a photo of the Hawg. Most people don't know that it exists.
