HT Magnum Polar Pop -up magnetic tip up
« on: Feb 08, 2017, 04:31 PM »
Anyone have any fixes for these things ? I almost stomped them through the hole last time out .
They have an adjustable magnet on the reel that you have to get just right or the flag won't stay down.
Wish I didn't waste my hard earned money on these .

They are challenging...great for perch on a nice day. Play with them indoors to get it right ...setting them up on ice will be easier .

The original magnetic tip ups made by The Worth Company were some of the best tip ups ever made.  I still own 5 of them that are upwards of 30 years old.  Ultra fast deployment and pickup, and completely wind and water proof.  Quality went down the toilet after HT snapped them up.  I wouldn't own one of the ones made today...

I agree Deal Ninja. I bought my Worth magnetics 40 some years ago.Best tip ups I have ever owned. I have accumulated 15 of them over the years. Never know, one might break. Some still have the wooden dowel in them. Only drawback to them I learned the hard way. You can't let them freeze after use, or the reel can split. Back in the day, they even sold repair kits for them. I still have some of those too. This past summer I located 3 more of the magnetics in a yard sale....olds

The fix on the flag tube is done by inserting toothpick or something similar into it and matching the broken pieces. Ad a drop of super glue. Make sure it's straight until dry. Also preferably a round toothpick.
For the tube, I would use a strong glue such as J B Weld. I have not done this fix myself, but is the way I would go. Remember to chip the ice away from the tip-up before removing from the hole. They are made of pvc tubing and get brittle in the cold. Also the reels can freeze and split if left in the cold after fishing. I always bring mine into the house to dry after fishing. Hopefully this saves you 2 expensive tip-ups. My son uses HT Polars like yours. Amazingly we have seen the flag tube shoot 10' up out of the tube when a fish tripped them.  ;D..He uses large shiners for the most part, so has the magnet set strong. Once you get the hang of em, I'm sure you will like them...Good Luck....olds
