Genz Box Mods
« on: Sep 27, 2016, 04:56 PM »
Got the ice fishing itch a little early this year. Picked up new Vexilar and got some really good ideas for mods from others on this site!  The FLX-28 came on the Genz box with the pro mount (rotates). This is a Reeds exclusive build and can only be purchased through them. You could purchase the box, vex, and mount separately and do this but not for what Reeds is charging for it as a complete build. I wanted to keep as many of the accessories inside the foot print of the box as I could so they wouldn't get snapped off as things get banged around. Here's what I did:

1.Added a transducer arm (Marcum). The Vex arm didn't work right for this setup. This swings back and is completely out of the way when not in use.
2.Added an LED light with toggle switch
3.Ice Jäger Customs Glow Cup and Transducer Reel
3.Added three rod holders. (Vexilar holders that come with the Pro And Ultra packs)
4. Cut a piece of angled aluminum to make the tackle box holder
5. Cut the transducer float to fill in the openings to keep water/ dead minnows etc from getting down inside
6. Vexilar cover to go over the face of the head unit ( not pictured)

Looks great! Instead of 3d printing one, you can just grab an old 250 yd fishing line spool.

Pretty sweet.

Question about the transducer reel. Does it actually work like a reel or do you just wind the cable around it? Seems like it would get twisted if wound up. I may have to try that one.

I carry my auger/drill and the rod I'm using in one hand, Vex in the other when hole hopping. Snap a line or lose a jig, quickly grab another rod. 2 gal. bucket and skimmer. Toss my fish in there should anybody be watching.  ;) There's also a cover on the Vex screen made from a small coffee can to shield out the sun and snow/rain.  A bit crude but effective
