Going to try to beat the rain tomorrow.  Not ice I want to be on if the water is rising!

Rains going south, we are expecting a few light snow-rain showers late Fri.  Sat and Sun now look good.

I was thinking of Sunday too but know now at least 10 individuals  headed there...I think I'll be opting for a quieter laker waters.

Oof. Sounds like I'll need to get there early. Hopefully the Maple Leaf has some vacancy. Set up in the dark with 100 yards between traps and some binoculars I should be all set  ;D ;D

I would never venture on first ice in the dark ,  thats foolish.
Maple leaf has gone way down hill and after 15 plus years of steady frequency  , last season was our last.

Good luck

You're not wrong, but everything about that post from the Maple Leaf to the 100 yard spread was oozing with mild sarcasm. I'll lay in on thicker next time!

Last Friday I had to drive Hamilton County.   They were all locked up.   Big lakes too.   The lake at Speculator was hard water.

Friday the south end was wide open.   Saturday morning was cold and the bay at the southern channel froze over.    I'm anxious to see what the south end looks like.

I don't know about closest, but if you're coming from the south Crossroads is right off exit 25.

What are traps?  Doesn't compute in laker water.  Good luck and remember your spud bar doesnt know what time of day it is.  As long as you use it you'll be fine day or night.  Garufi...how was work today?  Enjoy the torture.. I mean pictures?

fished from 7:30-12:30 and jigged 4 lakers 16-21inches in 40feet of water
had a few missed fish on the jig as well
the tip ups were very quiet today as i had one flag all day and it turned out it pulled the hook
had a solid 3.5-5inches of safe ice
also had a dozen or so small perch while jigging for lakers
good luck out there
it only gets thicker from here
def bust out the quads next weekend

Same here Jon.  I'll be fishing same place, or maybe Schroon.  You have any more luck after I left?

I had just found active fish when you rode past.  The weather prevented me from taking advantage of them.

I also found they were more active in 40 Ft., but not hungry, follow up and down just to piss you off.

Hoping to get out Friday for the first time this year. How’s the ice thickness?  I’ll be going off the town boat launch. Is there any problem areas I have to worry about?  I know it’s only Monday and a lot can change this week but any information will be appreciated. I want to try out the new sled I just built. If you see me out there come over and say hi. I usually go out by myself so it’s always nice to meet new people.

A bad day fishin still beats a good day at work!!

Nice work on the sled! May have to copy your idea of having a trap holder between the hub and the sled!
