« on: Jan 01, 2013, 10:38 AM »
the back up transducer line is causing the transducer to be at an angle under the ice. so it is unabe to find the my jig on the bottom :/ i was wondering if anyone had this same problem? im thinking about just taking the back up transducer line off, but i dont know how good of an idea that would be. please respond with some info--happy new year :D

Get rid of it. I don't use it on mine. It will work just fine without it.

I think most take it off, That would drive me nuts to have that hanging at an angle not reading correctly.

Yup, most people I've talked to have taken it off.

Take it off and either run it just like a Vex or make an arm and run it like a MarCum.  When the HBs first came out the subject was on here all the time so I won't go into the reasons HB designed it that way but if you do a search you'll find the info pretty easily.

I took mine off and recommend others do as well.  It'll make it no different than a vexilar transducer then.  Or go without the float, and hang it from a support arm like Marcums.  The only reason all the companies use their different options is so they didn't infringe on other the other company's patents.

Here's the answer direct from Humminbird's FAQ page:  http://www.humminbird.com/FAQ.aspx?ContentId=1854

Quote
Why do the Humminbird ICE Series flashers have two cables on their transducers?

Humminbird's transducer assembly contains both a support cable and a signal cable. The support cable hangs the transducer at the proper position in the water, and the signal cable connects the transducer to the control head. Because Johnson Outdoors believes in respecting the intellectual property of others, we specifically designed our assembly such that it would not infringe a specific patent relating to suspending an ice fishing transducer by its signal cable. For that reason, the transducer should be utilized per the instructions in the owner's manual at all times.

I just bout my ice 35 this morning and had it on the ice at lunch time and used it for 4 hours. By the end of the 4 hours i was thinking the same thing. I took mine off not even reading the forums because it was such a pain in the A$$. but other than the support line i think it a great machine for the money. I marked 2 fish in 25 fow and they chased it up 3-4 ft but no takers.

I go straight cord letting the diver hang. No float no support cable, nothing.

I don't use the support cable here either, but now I'm curious. Where did you guys get that swing arm from??  ???

If you ever find out about the support arm, could you let me know.  And if I find one I'll PM you. Fair enough?
I may not agree with what you say, but I will fight for your right to say it....

There is a fella on several other sites that makes them. His name is shane123. If you google his name and and "transducer arm" you will find him. I'm going to have him do one for my marcum... heard nothing but great things about them.
