Welcome thinandgreasy.

My fav is not really a jig but, a spoon: Buckshot Rattle Spoon, by Northland, and is best used with a dropper.     :o

Halis.  (they have a dropper chain).  Can get them at most Scheels, Cabelas, etc...  Buckshot rattle spoons are a close second..

Well, thinandgreasy, we're almost neighbors, ha.

I best say my second choice is a Lindy Perch Talker, green, sweetened with just one euro larva.     ;)2

Tungstens jigs, whiptails, lead maggots, crappie candy...all made by Petes Tackle here in Montana. Check out the sticky at the top of the forum. You won't be disappointed.

Now we're getting into details ~ small is good to begin with. Only the "noisy" rigs to bring them in, if they're not close.

After you catch one, it's time to get nasty & go with the best perch bait, it's eye.     ;)2

I euthanize the perch before removing the eyes.   The larger end of a paperclip, down in, circle completely, carefully pull so the optic nerve remains.
Retain the carcass, scale the belly for cut bait ~ the shiny inside is killer for most fish !     ;)2

Gouging reminds me of the Spanish Inquisition.      :woot: :roflmao: >:D :nono:

I use to go with Halis, but the chain kept on breaking all the time.  Anybody know of something like halis that I can use with a stronger chain?  Currently I use a small kastmaster

Replace the chain with 6-8lb test and add a glow hook.

It does the same function as for as landing whats on the hook but, no attracting rattle of the chain.    ;)2

I guess I'm an outlier. I never get let down by jammer jigs. Just have to key on color and it's on.  Seems to work on small ones or jumbos and picks up about any other species that stroll in.

1/4 oz Ratt L Trap in firetiger or yellows and oranges. Calls em in, and bigger ones usually smash it. For finicky fish, tip those trebles with Gulp Maggots, or call the school in then drop down tungsten fiskas jig with one maggot or plastic tail. Little atom Nuggies are sweet for that setup!
