Just got back, ice is over 1 foot. Many folks out fishing at the dam and in front of the park area. Couple wheelers out as well.

Only thing I saw out of the ordinary was a wheeler pulling a big brown shanty, looked like a hard sided permanent type. They pulled it from the park and stopped it halfway to the dam. Maybe it is for the tournament next weekend? They were posting flyers on cars in the parking lot.
From their website:

I think I'm going to come up in a couple weeks to target tigers... I fly fish for pure strain musky during summer and fall but I've never used live bait and wanted to ask about rigging. How do you guys rig baitfish in order to prevent musky mortality? All of the 3 I've caught over the past two years were released quite healthy and I want to keep that streak going.

Give us rookies some slack. Just trying to get information. You guys that have 6,158 posts can help us rookies out if you want too. And hopefully with your experience on the ice you can help us to be safe on the ice .  And  if we get lucky we can catch some fish and if we don"t maybe next year.

Really tough bite yesterday could look down the hole see crappies and they wouldn't hit ..trapper Mike landed 2 nice tigers his first ever ..and to get 2 was really nice and he lost monster tiger at the hole..ice was a foot easy walk to ..I got a flyer on my truck to about the derby..I won't fish it..I like the derby where weigh in is on ice that way you can release the tigers instead of killing them..I look at them as a catch n release fish ..that's just me..my opinion unless you get a monster and want it mounted..fun day out on the ice

If I read the Reg. right you are only allowed to keep one Tiger a day and it had to be over 3'. How do you run a derby off ice and satisfy that rule?

easy don't  enter any fish under 36 inches ...I  don't know about this  derby but  me personally  I wouldn't keep one they taste like  crap  but are a great game  fish   either put it on the wall or let it  go .......  I made the  mistake of  keeping a  good one  for  diner .....they don't taste like no northern  gents    and they really do smell

let me give you the best and most true information   about otisco lake  I have  ever given ..... if  you need me  to help you catch panfish north of the narrows I suggest you sell your  fishing gear and take up cross country skiing and golf....just saying

It's a guessing game or you don't keep anything under like 12lbs and trapper is correct they smell and taste aweful they really do northers are much better..I would fish for brown and panfish there r some big browns in there

Please don't post negative comments about the Derby. They can be a great time, get a good group together and spend a day together on the ice. Taking 1 or 2 Tigers out of Otisco is certainly not going to hurt that fishery. There are many years someone catches the fish of a lifetime. And you are supporting Bearwood Bait and Tackle. One of the few true baitshops left. Charlie and Rose do a great job there.

I don't really see anything negative on here about a derby..Derby's are fun I was only stating my opinion about the way I feel..I'm pretty sure there are a ton of tigers in there that die of old age how ever old that is🤔 I just wish those big ones would eat a few more of those dink gills..

suggestions are not  negative ....  tiger you grab a set of  scales and  do the  weigh in on the  ice  with all the  guys and  send the fish back down the holes ...if  someone  catches  a  trophy they can  decide to  release or  keep  me I think i'd  go  with a replica  anyways ......
