as of  june  1st 2024 it  goes in effect is what i'm undrstanding  yeah it changes  if you are  60 or over  you will be able  to hunt the special  bow  season  with a  crossbow  .......thats  the entire  bow season

That's the bill that never made it out of committee. I don't think anything has been done since the head of the NYS Crossbow Coalition was killed last fall.

i put in for it , had to get dr to sign it, scanned back to DEC, hour latter got permit to hunt all bow season with crossbow, permit good till 2028

Killed my first with a crossbow I won. WOW is all I can say! effective! Let's see how it holds up over the years??
Give those permit out like made, if it keeps more guys in the woods, so be it.
IF YOU think its unsporting than hunt with something else.
I think most of us hunt for food and not racks, so  most people want the an effective way to harvest them.

Makes me recall, I got to pick up my and my brothers European mounts today, need a bigger house or take some decorations down??? Fun with the wife pre-Bills game!!!!!

Many people are getting the permit with a simple doctor note and applying they are now being really relaxed about it

hey at 67 with  a few issues it's  hard for me to  shoot my  bow  and it's not that i can't  i  been  bow  huntin  over 50 years ...... being able to use  my  cross bow will keep me  bow hunting   my  brother is  80  ...i assure you  no matter  how well you shoot a  bow  now you will  be in our  postion  one day  ......

I have a torn rotator cuff in my shoulder.  I also don’t really like going up in a tree since so many hunters die from falling. CT made crossbows legal.  I use one in CT.  Age 54.   Gives me MANY more days sitting in a blind.

I found out about half way through archery season that I could get a crossbow permit. Just had to get my doctor to sign off.  The torn rotator cuff was my reason.  I can’t understand why it’s good for only 5 yrs though. Doesn’t make sense.  Do they think by some miracle I will be better able to shoot a bow at 80?

Maybe someday they will add a Crossbow option to check for filling out the carcass tag too.

I did this for my mom who is 77. Her doctor signed off on it and it was approved in 1 day.

it was easy, my shoulder has bad rotator cuff   you got to get ny gov account, print form , dr signs, scan back, hour latter approved , print it done ,

i had nurse practitioner sign mine, when i was in there, dec don't look that close at who , or what dr,  does in practice

my brother who's 80 got his  ......i have to go in for my physical so i'll get it filled hot...she's tired of giving me cortisone shots anyways....i'm lucky in a way  my shoulders are shot but legs are good and i can still fly fish  and ride the motorcycle.......

I think the carcass tag you just note the season when it was taken. When I went to report my harvest using the app, they give you crossbow as an option for filling out the method taken part

last two weeks of bow season and  black powder seasonand regular firearms season crossbows have been legal to use

Just take the form  with you to the Dr. Trap.  All they have to do is sign and put their license number on it. The dec will
approve  it right away. I think you are right Ice or hope you are.  Maybe the Dec thinks everyone will be able to use a crossbow over a certain age within 5 yrs.
