Jigging Rap
« on: Jan 10, 2017, 08:18 AM »
How are u guys tying these on to prevent line twist. I have always just used a swivel with quick connect right to the lure but heard that hurts the action. So only other options I can think of is just tie direct or do a barrel swivel between two pieces of line. Any suggestions?

In line swivel with a quick connect.

Small swivel and take a break from jigging every once in a while and it will spin till the twist is gone.

I like those little spro in-line swivels. I also upgrade the treble a size on most of my raps, VMC makes a nice sticky sharp treble.

I bet over 50% of my walleyes are hooked by the front hook. If the hooks are catching the ice then I would drill a bigger hole.

Yep. Well over 50% of the bigger fish are on that front hook. And they aren't coming unbuttoned with that single hook buried in the roof of their mouth.

And back to the swivels. I run a small barrel swivel with about 20" of fluoro to the snap. When I see that swivel I pause and make sure the fish is turned to bring him up. No lost fish at the bottom of the hole (Well, not none, but very few).

Crane live bait barrel swivel and connect the jig with a small split ring. No twist whatsoever and it's a very strong connection. Just gotta carry along a small split ring plier to change out lures .

Jager,
I assume these swivels don't have a snap ???What if you tie swivel inline, will that work or does it need to be connected to the jig rap?

No snap, just the split ring. I've had snap swivels fail on me as well as duo snap connectors! I suppose you could use the cranes in line and then tie on to the jig rap. I use these crane barrel swivels on open water with live Sawbellies which are very active and tend to swim in big circles. The cranes do a good job in minimizing line twist!

I have used this technic to remove hooks  from hands before  ,really is the easiest and least painful way I ever found.......of course being careful and not getting hooked would be a better option

Thanks for the link Trapper, cool video. The barb on the front of the rap is on the outside so it wasn't to bad to apply the pressure and remove.  :o
