Fishidy vs Navionics
« on: Jan 15, 2016, 05:20 PM »
So I got a new phone and switched from an iPhone to a Droid and have yet to redownload Navionics to my new phone.  I've been hearing a lot about Fishidy and wanted to see if anyone uses it and has also used Navionics.  Which one is better/more accurate?  Any pros or cons that would sway you to either or?

Any input would be appreciated.  Thanks!

I have been using navionics for the past couple years and really like it. I paid 4.99 for the year subscription and think it's definitely worth it. It's not always spot on but gives you a good understanding of what the lake bottom looks like. Your post is the first I ever heard of Fishidy. I just installed it and checked out quickly. (Free version) To me it doesn't really compare. Kinda has the feel of more like a social app. ie, Sharing pics, message boards... Maybe paid version is better??? My choice is navionics.

I just checked out fishidy and don't get it. Why the hell would anyone share exact coordinates to burn their favorites spots???

I've never used fished before but I kept hearing about it through friends and coworkers, figured I'd ask here if anyone has had any experience with it.

The sharing of coords would be good for gas holes and cracks but not much else...

I think I'll stick with Navionics.

Anyone know if I can keep my old points by redownloading the app if I switched from IOS to droid?

Growler,
Will the Navionics app work if not connected to Internet?
Thanks,

I've always used the Navionics app while on the lake just using my cell phone, no internet but the regular 3/4g depending on where I was on the lake.

Navionics works when you don't have service at all. As long as your GPS  is turned on, your good to go.

Also Growler, you can store way points for gasholes and fishing spots and share Lat and Long's with Navionics just as easy.

Thanks MJB that's exactly what I wanted to hear as I'm a cheap ***** with a Tracfone Android. They only give 1.2GB of data with a 1-year card.

Big vote for Navionics.  It gives you a good understanding of lake bottom and where you are.  Only problem I have had with it is me and my dumb phone mistakes. :o

Yes you can download areas of the map to your phone by either zooming in on an area or clicking on Download and them pick an area to download then use the internal gps. Remember you have to download while you have cell or wifi coverage.

Awesome, thanks for the input all.  I'll stick with Navionics, its what I've used the past 2 years but with the new phone figured I'd see if there was anything else out there.

Tight lines all

Ok guys, I have had navionics for a couple of years now. As I am prepping to go ice fishing, I turned on my app on my android. Up top is a banner asking if I want to upgrade to navionics plus. I clicked on it to see what it was about and down the screen it stated I had 132 days left on my subscription.
I guess I did not know I had to renew. I thought once I bought it, it was good to go.
 Any thoughts on this.

I have it on 3 phones, and have had it at least the last 2 if not 3 seasons and have never renewed it before. I only paid the 9.99 one time and was able to put it on all 3.

Is that for the app or the 49.99 service they do? They have another upgrade to the normal app everyone uses...

On a side note I had to redownload the app and lost all my cords I had stored

Just checked on the website, when you get the app you get a yearly subscription to Navionics+ with the daily updates and what not, but the charts sonars should stay there after expiration.

I'm new to all this. What should I download to my I-phone that works as a gps like on a boat to mark waypoints while ice fishing?

The Navionics apps are built in the following way once you have purchased a Chart area from the Charts & Upgrades section of the Menu:
Original App Purchase
Base map only. Free Government coastal chart data for USA waters with free Boating apps.
App with Navionics+ Chart coverage purchased in-app or with a regional app purchase (e.g., Boating: UK&Holland)
You can download mapping areas as many times as you want to retrieve Map Updates within the 12-month subscription period.  You also receive access to SonarChart™, our high-definition bathymetric mapping for selected areas of the World. See the coverage map at the bottom of our SonarChart™ page - http://www.navionics.com/sonarcharts
Advanced Features - Navigation Module, Dock-to-dock Autorouting (iOS only) and Advanced Map Options - are available free with a Navionics+ subscription.
App after Navionics+ Subscription Expired
The last Map Updates remain resident on your device but can not longer be updated.
You can still download mapping for areas you have not downloaded previously within your Chart coverage area
Advanced Features expire with Navionics+ subscription expiration. Your saved Routes will not be lost but will no longer display with enhanced features without a subscription renewal.
* Navionics+ subscription Upgrades are per Chart area/application. You can restore a Navionics+ Upgrade within your App using your Navionics Account information. A Navionics+ subscription purchased within the standard App can not be transferred to an HD App (different App title) or from a single App to the Boating App.
