Once again, its not a secret about the fish in there. And when you've been fishing it for 15 years, you can judge how the population is doing for yourself.

I was out yesterday (1/19/16) at the DEC pond in Avon and we were on 3-5" of black ice.  Ice was 4" or better on the south side of the peninsula.  Nothing but a few dinks but I didn't need the swim fins!

You may have been fishing that lake for 15 years...but many others on here haven't. You have been on the ice shanty for less than 15 days. You will learn the (hard) way of Iceshanty and openly disclosing specific fishing spots/information to hundreds of lurkers on the internet young padawan.

Don't be surprised to see things like this happen.  I and many others have seen it happen before.

This weekend is looking good for getting out. SBH should have some solid ice. If not surely hitting up a smaller pond. Can't wait.

Yeah channel 4 was just doing a little report saying the Small Boat harbor has safe ice and people are out fishing it now.

Bear Lake is not a "large" lake by any stretch of the imagination. That being said, never had any luck thru the ice there. Chautauqua is right down the road, just started going there

Bear Lake Bob is alive and well, now living in his old roots area of Angola, New York.Moved back to New York from South Carolina this July 2015 and am looking forward to reestablishing  all my old contacts here on Ice Shanty. Sorry, no more Bear Lake reports, but I will be watching Lake Erie for the guys. Walked out on Lake Erie twice last winter ,off the Catt, and twice off Sturgeon which almost killed  me. NO PERCH, HOWEVER I DID GET A EDUCATION, I WENT AND BOUGHT A 650 KAWASAKI TO RIDE OUT WITH. NO MORE WALKING.I AM NOW LOOKING CFOR A SNOWMOBILE SO ALL MY  BASES ARE COVERED !

So nice to be remembered for my past reports.

Thanks for the note Big Fish. Last year I followed you and the guys here on Ice Shanty when you were slaying those jumbo off Lake Erie.I recently moved back to WNY from South Carolina and did not have a ride out off Hamburg. I BOUGHT A ATV this fall, and will be ready for next ice , and my boat is in dry storage waiting for the Perch Spring runs.
Looking forward to catching up with all my friends.

There is some nice perch in that lake, if ya know what to use for jig and bait.  Looks like you know, awesome job on a tough year.

Oh yeah the lake is loaded. Getting them to bite is a different story but after putting many hours in I got a pretty good bead on em.
