Plush Red Neck Shanty
« on: Oct 31, 2008, 11:58 AM »
I was just browsing the e-bay ice fishing gear and saw this super plush, fairly redneck, iceshanty for sale. couldn't believe it, had to post it.  ;D
If you can make it over to Elk River, Minnesota, good luck bidding on this one.
Here's the caption that went with it...

"semisleeper converted fishhouse has four holes and fishes two comfortably comes with sunflower heater and batt. hook up (batt. and prop. tank not included). has a spot light in front to cheak for tip-ups at night and plenty of light inside has new tires and bearings. pick up only "

That is way too nice to be used in NM.  It wouldn't take the wind here either.

Where's the door to get in?  Do you climb in the window?  I like the spotlight touch.

Leave it to somebody from MN to come up with this!  Makes me think of something that I laugh about every year.  I live in the suburbs of Minneapolis and we have quite a few lakes right in our metro area and lake shore is pretty expensive.  One lake in particular is very exclusive with multi-million dollar homes all around it.  Most of these houses have huge windows that face the lake.  Every year guys with every kind of "shelter" imaginable set up camp right off shore from these homes and are parked there for 4 months out of the year.  Makes me chuckle to see that old camper with some guy taking a leak next to it 100 yards away from a $4 million house.  Bet the real estate didn't tell them about that little winter surprise.... :)

couple more funny red neck shanty's.
this is a portable even I could afford.  ;D

use it to haul pesticides in the summer, and enjoy the fumes in the winter.

Yikes,  Don't know that I'd be too comfortable in that shanty for a while.

the top pic almost looks like a not quite fully developed Hershey kiss.
Don't laugh at the 2nd pic , my buddy and i stayed in one something like that over 20 yrs ago before they even thought of making the portables we have now. Someone cut the end off of an underground fiberglass gasoline storage tank and set it on the ice for a shelter, was decently warm in there.

Funny you should mention that.  There is a lake in Minnesota that is actually renowned for "ice lizzards" working the shanty towns.

Mount 2 of them together for more room. I was going to make a flip out like a fish trap to cover the hole on mine. Maybe I still will do it some day...
