Started discussing construction plans for the new portable with the Mrs. today. Figured it would make a neat "Us" project for the summer. She wasn't near so excited about it, "Us" don't ice fish.

you should tell her if she puts in enough sweat equity in the shanty mabey you will take her along once in a while

My father-in-law just made us a tool to use to insert the ice anchors on our portable. It's basically a t-handle with a slot on the end, so you don't have to get down on your hands and knees and screw the ice anchors in. It's very cool. He did such a nice job, it looks like it came out of a machine shop. I'll try to get a pic of it this weekend. I told him he should patent it!

The only time of year I don't care for is the in-betweener. "When the ice is not thick enough or the water not soft enough.

I was thinking about carring the cordless drill this coming season with some tent spikes.

Found out it is actually 15 ft round. Gotta wait for him to get his fields all planted so he can help me get it loaded. Gonna be a few weeks prolly.

Here I thought that I was the only one from Iowa that had this problem. Its good to see that I have company. Truth be told, my ice rods have never been "put away". I put the shack and auger away. These cooler temps this weekend have only made it worse. Can't wait to be back out there again. Last year it was nice to be able to drive on the ice. Boy you can sure haul alot of stuff when you don't have to pull it.

hey southend517, if i am not mistaken,jet sled sells the ski"s for the sled. i have the same exact one but even though i do have the ski"s, there still not on it yet. go figure.

Took my ice rod out on the boat sunday.
Did you know you can cast about 15ft with one of those?
Anyway, had a blast catching gills.
At least my one of my ice rods didn't have to spend a lonly summer waiting for me.
