It's the end of March and the wife hears you say, "I'm going to miss something terrible" as she walks out the door. Little does she know you were talking to your ICE FISHINGequipment!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You drop more than $600 on gear this season to hit the ice maybe 6 times.

You kneel by a hole in teen temps even if your knees are killing in hopes of catching a big one.

...You think about ice fishing whenever you pass a mailbox with a flag up (I know I do!)...

I read this one the other day and just yesterday my neighbors flag was up on the mailbox.  I laughed out loud, all by myself while standing on the street.  Time to lock me up.

A feller ur age should be "marking" hydrants! And it's tipups you dream about going off? You gotta get away from ice fer awhile. Take a couple loans, enroll in Florida St for a semester, maybe try a little volley ball!

You spend the whole summer going over your fishing equipment, tuning up your snowmobile and rebiulding your icehut, while your boat sits in the drive way, not being used.
Be safe out there, and set the iron.

Thankfully I didn't get skunked! I have to add:

consolidated the list to e-mail to a buddy, here goes:

You might be a diehard ice fishermen if…

... Four inches is plenty

... teeth marks in your 6 inch chub sounds like a good time

... getting "flagged" doesnt mean your done being served

…you jump out of bed and grab your gear just to realize it's JULY!!!!!

…you keep a ziploc bag full of waxworms in your underwear next to your jewels so they are nice and lively when you put em on the hook

…your fridge is starting to look like the tackle shop's bait cooler.

...you like it when your rod is down, not up

...your truck smells like burbot and you can't make it go away

… you get depressed when it starts getting warm outside

…you sit in your shanty when its summer

…your shanty is your summer home instead of using a tent or cabin

…your freezer has more bait than food

…you go to the store for milk and come home with new tackle

…You think about ice fishing whenever you pass a mailbox with a flag up (I know I do!)

...Even during the summer, you have your flasher and jigging rods in the boat, jigging over the side...

...You've ever walked out onto a tree and punched a hole through 1 1/2 inches of ice, just because you couldn't wait for ice any longer

…the fish in your wife's aquarium. remind you of live bait and you wonder what you could catch on that big gold fish if it were on the end of your tipup

…You never put your gear away, just in case of a cold spell.

…you set the vex up in the fish tank just to see how it really works

…you fish in the kids aquarium in the summer so u can still use the smaller rods and check out the visibilty of the new line.....then get mad cause the fish arent biting

…You have an expensive pair of neoprene waders that only get used during the month of March

…You consider buying a dirt-bit just so you can use your auger in July

…You love colds snaps in the fall that make the lake freeze early(if the ducks have left)

…January thaw is a nightmare not a blessing

…Your second home is made of cheap lumber and smells like fish

…You spend more on bait and tackle then groceries

…You have a better stereo sound system in your iceshanty then in your own home! AND you can justify it because you spend more time in your iceshanty than in your own home.

…Everyone you know is sick of hearing what you saw, heard, found on iceshanty this morning

…You can pee out your winter suit, sweat pants and longjohns in -40 degree weather without getting any article of clothing or your fingers wet.

…if you move farther north after you retire just to have a longer ice fishing season!

…You can stay out late and come home smelling of fish.................. ............... and the Wife don't mind!

…you don't phone your fishing buddies anymore...you PM them on Iceshanty

…It's the third week of March and you know the exact number of shopping days 'till next ice fishing season

…You jump from the bank across 3 ft of open water to get on hard ice!

…you have a plan to set your tipups on the ice from a canoe. just to get out "one more time"

…you've thought about putting your tip-ups in tire innertubes roped together so you can use them on open water.

…You drop more than $600 on gear this season to hit the ice maybe 6 times.

…You kneel by a hole in teen temps even if your knees are killing in hopes of catching a big one.

…When shopping for automobile insurance, the first question you ask is "what's the coverage if my truck breaks through?"

…You spend the whole summer going over your fishing equipment, tuning up your snowmobile and rebiulding your icehut, while your boat sits in the drive way, not being used.

…You found 5000 different ways to explain to your wife why a $500 iceshack is important.

It is scary. I can remember starting my auger mid July and my wife coming out of the house and just giving me "that look".

I'm there.

Even eminent chartered accountants are known, in their capacity as fishermen, blissfully to ignore differences between seven and ten inches, half a pound and two pounds, three fish and a dozen fish.
