Seeing that cans 'travel' easier, I usually settle for bud lite or something like that.  Once Im back in the hotel room though, its a good hoppy local beer from VA or a nice Guiness pub draft.  The thing with the bud lites of the world is you dont feel so bad when one freezes up on you, or you kick it over running for a flag.

As for cheese, how about some nice curds slightly melted on the stove.....cant find curds in VA though,,,so I reserve that delicacy for when Im back in the home state of Wisc.

I wouldn't argue with the guys that said OPB or Free Beer  ;D but if I am bringing my own it's Busch or on rare occasion Pete's Wicked Ale.

In the rare event that I'm actually partying on the ice instead of fishing, I like Bud Ice. It has to be in a can simply cause its lighter to carry 12 cans off the ice than 12 bottles. ya know!?  But it really is hard to beat a pull off the bottle. I'm talking JD baby!

Right on!!  The lighter beers do tend to freeze faster.  You end up with a coors light snowcone.  You get all the alcohol in three sips.  I try to make sure the beer is warm that morning.  New castle is a good beer on the ice...but it usually is blue or coors light.   Molson xxx doesn't freeze very fast.

Hi guys,
I've been a homebrewer for the last four years and have made literally gallons on top of gallons of beer.  Why I'm partial to my own brew, ice fishing lends itself well to certain types of beer.  Here I have to go against two opposing views on which type of brew should be sipped on an outing.
First, one would make a case for a limited supply of bathroom availability on the ice.  For this, the line of thought would be to have a beer with plenty of mouth feel and flavor.  For this beer, I will make place my vote on a Leinenkugel Creamy Dark.  This beer is brewed in Milwaukee, sticks with my German heritage, and a few sips gives me enough flavor to enjoy.
The second line of thought would have to go with the principles of ice fishing, which are slowly being reversed.  But the beauty behind ice fishing used to be its simplicity.  Ice fishing used to be a chance for those who couldn't afford a boat to explore fishing holes otherwise unavailable to them in the summertime.  With that, a fisherman could simply and cheaply make up for a financial disadvantage.  With this said, I would go with a Miller High Life or Milwaukees best -- bottled.  This type of fisherman wouldn't afford a ice shanty or vexilar or power augers. This fisherman would need a six-pack to keep from feeling the chill set into his ears, hands, and feet.  This fisherman would enjoy the High Life.
Have Fun!

I only bring the beer to the derbies with the guys, then it's something with a little meat to it like a growler of Rock Art Brown Bear Ale.

STR8781 is all over it on this one. I also brew my own and know you can't match homebrew with anything over the counter. I am a third generation brewer with roots from Germany (my grandfather made hooch for the mob during prohibition). We will all agree that you cant beat the delectible flavor of an ice cold free beer of just about any brand.
Hali-Man wants the job as club-beer mascot and I can't think of a better candidate. I say give him the job. He won't let us down.

Anything that will get me drunk!! Not too picky like most beers.  For some reason miller light always goes down smooth and fast on the ice. Hate genny and bud light.  Favorite beer Yuengling or Guinness.

You may be the mascot but i am the beer master!!

i would love to put you to the test on that one, you, me and hali ;D 2 cases each, may the best man win

we will have to fish together sometime, i live in olean, home of st. bonaventure in the top 10 party schools for the past 15 years, and i spent 4 years in college on the football team, living in the football house, i drink more now than i could then, i aint scared. also i fish with hali quit often, open and hardwater and trust me he can put them away with the best of them. we would go through about 3 cases by dinner time, plus a 2 liter of rum and coke, saturday and sunday

speaking of party schools, i went UW-Madison, during the peak of the Alverez era, when they won the rose bowl twice, Dane broke the record and won the Heisman, and they went to the Final Four in bball.   Talk about a party!!  Plus, there was some sweet perch action on lake Mendota right in town, if you felt like walking 2 miles out on the lake. (no trucks allowed, at least not without enough flotation to sail them to Antarctica)

good times, good times....   ;D
