Lantern hook
« on: Sep 17, 2013, 12:58 PM »
Hello all,
I have a Clam Big Foot XL4000T and a Coleman lantern (967 lumens) and was hoping to gather ideas on hanging it off of the support poles where they  cross.  My questions are:
- What should I use to hang it off of?
- What distance should I keep from the top of the shack?

Use a non conductive material to hang it  so it doesn't transfer heat and make a heat shield out of something like tin and hang that above it to keep the top from melting.

Bad idea to hang a live flame lantern in a fabric porty, IMO. Accidents happen..they get bumped, they fall, or they melt a hole....seen that many times. I'd park it on a milk crate or right on the ice
to be safe. You don't need that to ruin your time fishing.  ;)

I thank you both for you replies.  I would like to hang it, but was worried about the fire hazard, as well as if the heat would dry out the fabric of the shack.  A milk crate sounds like a good idea.

Whatever works out for ya! Spent 27 years doing/teaching Safety, I couldn't let that one go by!!  ;D I used to just flip one of my 5 gal pails and park mine on that.

Much appreciated.  I will figure something out, maybe something that that will hold the base of the lantern snugly.

These work well if you have a larger propane tank with you. I used to use mine to run a lantern and two sunflower heaters. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/distribution-post.aspx?a=128405

That looks like a nice set up, I will have to think a bit about it.  My initial worries are transporting it, but I will have to try what I have and see what I think I will like and benefit greater from.
