You can get a brand new polar type for 10-15 bucks, and they last FOREVER.

I havn't had a polar fail on me yet. My dad used them my whole life and I do as well. Cheap, well made and light to carry. Deep snow just add a longer flag pole.

i use polars and just got a set of heritage.  mainly so snow mobiles can see them.the   polars disappear  till they go off . i like the Blinking flag for the polars work real good for night time fishing

Spend a little extra for heritage, they are way better then the polars in my opinion, you never have a problem seeing the flags in any weather

I have a hodge-podge collection of tipups over the 23 years I have been buying them. I don't have a strong preference for a particular style, but of the 13 I own, I have 3 of the Polar style ( HT Brand ) which are needed for rigging large live baits for pike fishing. The upright style tipups that I own cannot keep a baitfish larger than about 5 inches from tripping the flag all day, even with the shortest band loop made. The HT's with their soft and hard release sides are more versatile and necesary for fishing large baits.

Never had a problem w/ the HT polars - Fish 307 around $15. Some places have the Polars (ie Gander) for similiar price
put they had plastic spools, not metal...

Heritige or Jack Traps, may cost a few bucks more but well worth it.  Never experience wind flags and they both will hold plenty of line for deep water, or for catching pike or salmon.

I had a set of 6 HT polar tip ups.  They only last for about 3-5 years before all of them leaked lube all over the place.  They were always a mess.  I sold them and put the money towards Beaver Dams.  I have had 6 of them for 15 years now.  No issues and work perfect.  The only problem with Beavers are the cost.  I paid $15 each for mine.  Now they are over $30 each which is crazy expensive for a tip up.

X2  I have both heritige lakers and jack traps. I like them both. I also have polars that I use in shallow water for trout and they work fine and are much less expensive.  However, if i could have only one kind it would be the jack traps.
