Title: In Fisherman Ice Fishing Guide 2007?
Post by: icejunky on Oct 07, 2006, 09:54 PM
Anyone seen this yet or know when to expect it? I went to there site and there was no info yet, and I cant remember when it came out last year.

They have great articles and excellent info on new equipment, I think that mag cost me more then anything else last season

I did a search on here and found some people were getting them(2006 issue) last year toward the end of October. Shouldn't be too much longer.

I ordered mine last week!  8)

The new 2007 issue is out! :)

Call 800-260-6397, it seems their website is goofed somehow.

They are advertising it toward the back of the Oct-Nov issue.

The whole point of buying it is because it scratches a little itch that has been festering all summer.Sure ,you can probably find all the new stuff online, but how do you know what to do a search for if it is NEW?
Title: Re: In Fisherman Ice Fishing Guide 2007?
Post by: bucketmouth on Oct 08, 2006, 09:54 PM
What I like about the In-Fisherman ice mag is that I find it has way more unbiased articles in it.  It seems to offer a greater rundown of types of lures, rods, shelters and whatnot to use as compared to many other mags which have articles all written by an iceteam member so all they use are FishTrap, StrikeMaster, Lindy, Vexilar, Ice Armour, Mr. Heater and so on and so forth like these are the "be all and end all" the market has to offer.   The name-dropping is nauseating at best, but since there really are only a handful of ice edition mags I do buy them all and weed out the important information at my leisure.

There are some good articles in there, if you look

How does an advertiser influence an article on patterning fish behavior?

If it wasn't for advertisers, the publication wouldn't exist!

Has anyone else noticed that In-Fisherman's Magisine keeps getting skinnier? **censored**? it used to take me a few nights to read through it, now it takes a half hour. ??? :(

Believe it or not, I've never seen it in Alaska.  That's OK, all if the info in it is aimed at Southern Canada and Northern U.S.  We don't have bluegill, crappie, perch, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, rock bass, catfish, musky, brown trout, pickerel, walleye, sauger, saugeye, etc...  I realize that reading this list can be pretty depressing.  What we do have is rainbow trout, dolly varden, arctic char, pike, burbot, sheefish, whitefish, lake trout, and oh yeah...

hey mike in n. maine we have the same except for the sheefish and dolly varden. i find that fishing is fishing no matter what your fishing for. try panfish techniques on whitefish or trout and you might learn something. ive used my lake trout techniques for muskie and it produced big time. i find every fish has its own specific behavior but they all have the basics in common. like pike and largemouths are 2 completly different fish but yet they share alot of common behavior. they are both agressive predators that prefer shallow water with weeds. therefore similiar tactics work for both. i have a guy ive fished with in s. maine that jigs for lakers with light tackle and panfish jigs and does just as well as the guy pounding the bottom with a 1/2 oz.pimple. i never turn down any fishing literature for that very reason. just my 2 cents.

It fulfills another start up of a hopefully long ice fishing season. It's a right of passage for me every year to order one and then I let the fellers enjoy it at work and when I'm done re reading it 3 or 4 times I put it with my collection since 1999.  To me it's $5 well spent while pacing for the long awaited wait of walking on top.  Yes they have definitely gotten thinner as far as substance but it's still a must have for us ice fishing junkies. ;D

Aside from some imformative articles, there are always some awesome fish pictures. A couple of years ago I ordered online, but last year I noticed a local news agency carries it. Anyway, if you don't like the info you can always look at the pics. Like Penthouse, or Playboy, but you actually have a shot at bagging some of those huge fish. Dream on, and good luck to all!

Diddo here in Northern BC except no artic char, pike, or sheefish. But we got kokanee ;D. I find a few articles that I like to read prior to heading east to Alberta or Manitoba where the species are much broader. I also like the new gear section because I like my toys.

Yes. Last year I picked one up at a Border's. If you have a Gander Mountain near you, they usually carry them also.

I'm going to get me a copy as well,,,just to see what new gear is going to be available for this upcoming season.   As for the articles.,,,, I could care less.   I've been subscribing to the In-Fishermen and the Walleye Insider for years and I find that most of the published articles in the guide are reprints from previous issues of the regular magazine.  Kind of annoying to read same stuff  twice.  Pictures are pretty though and it gets me exited about the new season,  so I guess it's worth the money.

You bet, thats where I got the "run and gun" mentality too. It is just depressing to know these people are not objective, its all about the $$$$$. I guess I cant blame Dave Genz though, if someone gave me fee gear and then paid me to fish with it I would not object. I guess he has to make a living, and it sure beats work. ;)

I just watched the Nature Vision DVD, its put together rather well. It is admirable of them to put there stuff out there for all to see. It is nice to see products in use, instead of a sales pitch in a magazine.

I was traveling last week and picked them both up for the plane ride. Really gets me pumped up for the upcoming season and the F+W mag had a decent article on PA's Lake Wallenpaupack.

Not a bad "intro offer" in the In-fisherman mag if you're really in need of some visual fishing stimulation... you can pick a "how to" DVD for FREE (well, kind of free... $6.00 for S+H) and yes, there are a few ice fishing titles.

I got it at Meijer a few days ago.  I liked it.  The decoying for crappie article was my favorite.  Makes me want a chubby darter.  I also liked the DVD.  Advertising aside, its fun to watch people icefishing if you ask me.  Especially when theyre actually catching fish.
