I'm still in denial.. I stop it once every couple days.
-
I am here every day. I must have ice in my veins. On forums everyday looking for info on next seasons tournaments, waiting for the confirmation on the NAIFC tournament on Bomoseen, buying lures and all around obsessing on all things ice fishing.
Yes, I am Nathan and I am an ice fishing addict. If there was AA for ice fishing i would be saying this.
Repeat after me; I (state your name) am an ice fishing addict.
-
I stop by when ever I think of it. I am busy working now so I can icefish later.
-

Marked a few, can't get those buggers to bite. ;D Can't get into summer fishin this year for some reason, can't wait for the ice!

It's been eight weeks since I quit driving 400 miles one way every weekend to get on the ice. I've been on soft water six of those eight weekends. I will stay away this weekend because it's amateur weekend, but I'll be on a private lake in MI. Been pretty successful on the Crappie this spring, but water levels are up all around me which makes it tough. Hopefully they will be up shallow in MI this weekend. Still check in this site every day, and I'm looking forward to an early winter again.

And I thought my 350mi one-way to ice fish was insane.

And I thought my 350mi one-way to ice fish was insane.
Hey, it was worth every mile of it, wasn't it? :)
Jeff
-
if there was some where to drive to within 400 mi that still had ice i'd be all over it oh well guess i'll have to wait only 186 days to ice season here (hopefully)
-
Still check in here to see whats going on.. Been doing some soft water fishing of shore till boat gets done having tune up done on it....... ;D
-
I'm back over here, just got done with my annual 3 weeks of shore casting for walleye. Started getting my 16 foot boat ready for the open water & thought about Ice Shanty. I'm going to use my Ice equipment from time to time when the walleye go deep. Next winter isn't that far away! snagger!
-
In western NY there are four seasons
winter - is ice fishing
spring - metal detecting ski slopes - I call it exercise with a view
summer - fishing for lake perch in Lake Erie which I might add provided 150 last week - 42 feet was the
magic depth plus minnows -
fall - deer season gathering leaves for the compost piles -
I smile when I meet those that complain there's nothing to do when it snows - Tried the trip to Fla for a week this past Feb and all I can say is -- I had a successful triple bypass on the trip home - bypassed Jacksonville, Fla - Charlotte, NC and Pittsburgh, Pa - without an accident....
See ya all on the ice in 2010 or earlier - if were lucky.
-
Nice to see people still on the site, Can't wait for the ice.
-
i am still here waiting for the ice to return.
-
i am still here waiting for the ice to return.
i just can't wait for the leaves to start to turn work slows down then deer season starts and when its over then right on to the ice
-
The ice is just going out here now, so I can wait a few moths for it to return. ;)2
Time to get the boat ready!!!!! ;D
-
Time to get the boat ready?
With a softwater season that lasts 47 minutes, you gotta be ready to launch at the drop of a hat! ;) Git 'r done!
-
i finally got the canoe done, and its ready to go. now if i could just get the aluminum done life would be grand!
-

You going to set up your fishfinder on flasher mode & vertical jig any of your local lakes on a reasonably calm day. Try it, it's the cat's meow! Those fish are more frustrating on open water sometimes!

She's pretty much ready.
The biggest job is vaccuming all of last years dog hair out of it!!!! ;D
It will be a couple of weeks atleast until our ice is completely gone.
But the smaller lakes inside the city limits should be ice free this weekend.
I should be out in my one man cataraft in one sometime this weekend. ;)2
-
nice, i am digging your seasons there! :icefish:  ;D
-
You sure can see the people that dont have a winter!! I know Im kinda glad Im not plowing snow anymore this season and would like a break from the furnace running just to have 2 -3 months to restock the fuel and clean out the furnace is nice Still getting temps in the 30's pretty regular here in Northern Maine Id like a break! winter gets old and can imagine up further north of me they have the same thoughts often!
-
our winters here could be a little longer. thats my favorite time of year. i love the temps, the snow, most of all though i love ice fishing.
-
I still pop in 2 or three times a week. My spring fishing has sucked so far. Going out today to troll for walleye, we'll see if it has changed since last week.
-
I miss the smell of my gas auger on a cold morning
-

other than the cost of fuel to heat i wish it could be winter all year the air is so much more crisp and every thing looks so clean there are no bugs and of course the ice fishing
-
Nothing beats hardwater fishing. :icefish:
-
yep im ready to walk on the hardwater.already tired of the boat traffic and jetskis.i like boating and jetskis just not early mornings when there is fish to be caught.bring MI some ice.
-
At this moment, I am one of 7 users on the Shanty.... it is only May, and I am already missing the hardwater. And my new unused Marcum is just sitting on the shelf :(

If you have a boat, rigg it up on there & vertical jig a local lake in the am, when it's calm out. It's alot of fun watching the marks come up & hit your offering! KEEPING THE ICE ALIVE!

One of the Many, many, many things I miss about Ice season and ice fishing is....I don't have to MOW the grass.... ;D I mow it but it's not one of my favorite things to do. Maybe I outta just buy a goat........

Grass, hehehe. We don't need no stinking grass!!!!!
Grass is a scarce comodity up here, we rake the gravel!!!! ;D
Or if we're really lucky we just look at a nice chunk of granite and do nothing!!!!!! ;D
-
sounds like a place for retirement!
-
Retirement?? Heck...I'd move there NOW....LOL

good point pajns!!!

I know that feeling where I was in Alaska we had 1 piece of ground about 5' x5' next to the firestation that had grass and the firechief used to be a former landscaper in the lower 48 we didn't want nothing to do with it but he was foolish about it and wanted it cut all the time (where he found us a lawn mower I don't know ) mysteriously it all died..... >:D >:D
-
just checking in , hope all is well with everyone and the lines are tight!
-
yup the lines were tight this mournin it was a littlle breezy but the trout where on fire got 1 brookie 2 salmon and 12 rainbows in about 2 1/2hrs the only reason i stopped fishing was cause i ran out of worms
-
I am looking forward to doing that for fishing and bit of scouting for next winter.
Have you tryed it yet, I got in about a half hour or so yesterday at the end of a fishing trip! My buddy doesn't ice fish, so he wouldn't let me do it til last half hour of daylight! I'll have my boat at the marina in a couple days. Then nobody will tell me when I can ice fish or when I can't! I used to love mowing the lawn, I can't stand it anymore! All I want to do is run down to the lake & use my X67C! :woot:
-
good morning everyone, just checking in before i head over to the lake, and when thats done gonna go bang out a couple of stripers.

Not yet. I still have to get a different transducer setup for my fl18, I believe there is a suction cup transducer that I can use. But look forward to scoping out some lakes in Vermont soon.
-
Glad you said that about transducers, I'm making my Lowrance LMS 522 permanent for the summer on the transom mount. never thought to turn the flasher on that! I just throw the ice ducer over the side of the boat with my X67C & jigg under it, even though I have a summer transducer for it! It works fine! But wouldn't work for checking depths at fast speeds! Have a great summer!

no luck with the strippers, hope the little one feels better soon!

i use my x67c on my boat i rigged a holder for the ice transducer so that it stays in the right position it works great on speeds up to 5mph i havn't gone any faster than that i havn't tryed it in flasher mode though just in scroll mode for trolling i just wish it had a sidefinder for seeing whats near the surface not just strait down
-
thanx mike sorry you couldn't get into the strippers though
thanks, there in now so any time now i will hit the strippers hard. thats one of the best eating fish!

I don't know what your financial situation is, but I've got another lowrance for that reason! I'm not wealthy by any means I fish off a friends boat, but own 3 fish finders! Backwards!

That sound right up my ally. I am pretty crafty but have not come up with anything besides drifting with it off the side. Is your ice ducer similar to the vexilar? How did you do it?
-

my ducer has a hole through it near the top my finder came with a metal rod 12'' long or so that had a 90and was threaded with a wing nut i fastened the metal rod to a dowel the dowel slides through a piece of 1''x3'' the 1x3 clamps to the boat with a C clamp i drilled holes through the dowel and 1''x3''so i could use a pin to adjust heights for the different boats i'd in heres a few pics its kinda ghetto but it works

mealworm. Pretty clever. I have just come up with an idea for my vexilar. Try to snug my foam sleeve into a piece of pipe and tuck in the ice ducer in. clamping to a boat hull. Maybe. Will have to experiment
-
Hey Mealworm, see that piece of metal rod you have there that came with the lowrance,I have that permanently duck taped to my cord in the winter, there for you don't wear out your cord where it meets the the transducer part on the ice! My buddies are on there 2nd & 3rd vex ducers for the ice! I'm on 5th year & counting and I don't take my ducer out of the hole when I have fish, just pull fish right up threw it, I bury my foam floaty in the snow & just let the cord and ducer down the 6 inch hole! My lures & fish used to hook the cord, not now with tape & that rod! I got a piece of wood clamped to my boat too! 2 minds that think alike! Can you see your jig at 5 mph?
-
I think the cable should be taped to the rod so you get a better signal also.
-
I think the cable should be taped to the rod so you get a better signal also.
i actually thought about that but i take the ducer off the rod for charging, storage and transport so it would be kind of a pain with the tape and the signal seems fine
-
hey!!! im back!!!
dave you still on the ice?
-
Nope, doin' stuff around the house so I can get out during the open water season.
I heard that there were still people running their snowmobiles out on Great Slave as of last weekend, but they got bigger nads than me!! ;D
The small lakes in town are now ice free but the bigger ones (that I can get my boat on) are still 90%+ ice covered, but are getting badly candled. I am going to try and get my one man pontoon out on one of the local lakes next weekend but it will still be a couple of weeks before the big show. ;)2
I cleaned and fired up the SubHunter yesterday so I just need open water now. ;D

-
thats cool, at least you got a couple!

-
I need the ice to go away first!!! ???
-

i hear ya man....spent all week in my boat caught some fish, but rather be on the ice.

a little chilly but thats what i like!

My thought process behind enjoying the cold is this. You can always put more on if you're cold. You can only take off so much if you're hot. That is if you don't like people looking at you funny.
-
Just received a Honda three wheeler setting it up for ice should make life easier. Needless to say I am still thinking.

And this my friend.... might be why I only fish with a couple of my friends in the winter..... there are a couple of people that I fish with that just really aren't "nude material"
:)
-
I fish alone alot. Especially in the summer. You should see the faces when the 'oltimers stumble upon me on a trout stream. I dig something out of the 'ol lady's top drawer for the real hot days. It's the same color as the grubs I use. There is no dress code at all in my canoe. Exactly fellas. Let's get a move on (summer) before some old fart has a heartattack. An older guy was watching me from shore once. Before I got to shore I had made sure to dress myself again. He asked what the heck was shining on my chest out there. The look after my response was priceless. Nipple rings. He said he actually thought I had lures hanging off my skin. This dude waited til I got back to shore because he had to know.

Wow! thats brings a new meaning to the fishing term drag. ;)

Don't ask me what I was thinking when I dropped all that. If you guys think I should erase that one, I will. Humor getting a little carried away. And for the record I haven't done that in a while.,

Got the boat out last Sunday for some trout trolling.............. .......finally!!!! ;D
I did find out that one of my trailers bunks needs replacing though. :-[
That is what I'll be doing this weekend instead of fishing. :'(
