From the Lakeside Digital (Honeoye Webcam) page. "(Wed January 7) lake somewhat frozen over. Unfortunately so is my cheap camera! Will try to bring in and thaw it..."

I so often check the camera and neglect to see if the facilitator has updated his message. I almost missed it. Hopefully we'll get some views tomorrow.

I'm shooting for Crappie after work on Friday if all is well and safe.

Was standing on the ice at Sandy bottom tonight. Every step I took, water would come up expansion cracks about 10' from me. Ice was sketch. This coming from a guy that has stomped holes to fish. Trying to fish Saturday.

from what ive found ice always forms quicker on the south end then the north end. lots of gas holes at the north end as well

The wind lately should help blow the snow off the south end. Hopefully making good ice tonight.

Good luck tomorrow gillpill ... Keep us posted tomorrow.

Webcam's up and running. Sure looks cold and lonely out there. It doesn't show a view of the extreme south end where first good ice sets up.

I think your safest ice will be at the extreme south end. Be safe and go for bluegills this weekend. They're fine eating too and Honeoye produces some real slobs. I go for Perch and Walleye but I'm not feeling brave enough to venture out on those areas yet which are more mid-lake, deeper water areas.

Trident Marina's probably your best bet for public access. But again, I'd keep to the south end for this weekend. I can't imagine the ice is safe at Trident yet.  When it IS safe.....I'd head southwest. That's the quickest drag to deeper water. It's a dishpan lake without a lot of structure that fish can relate to so it's either set up a spread and wait for them to come to you or travel light, stay mobile, and keep moving until you find them. I'd go for the latter if the ice is safe and if you don't know of any spots specifically that you're trying to get right on top of.

Almost forgot, check out the topo map http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/25663.html. Trident is on the east side just north of the large point.

That was me on the cam today. Fished all over south end and towards middle of lake. Deepest I made it was 25 ft. Spudded my way every where. Ice is solid, nothing less than 3 inches. Not saying it's safe but I felt comfortable.  Didnt find the motherload yet, I'll be back out on the main basin first thing tomorrow. Few others out on the gill grounds just not my cup of tea. Good luck be safe!!
Freeze it and they will come.

Fishmandan,
I would like to fish tmrw, but don't wanna go solo. I'm not much for the gills. Like to find the perch and eyes. If you want a tag along I'd be glad to meet up in the a.m.

I feel comfortable on 3" of ice as long as there isn't a lot of snow on top. How much snow is there??? Thinking of going Gill hunting Saturday or Sunday. Thanks

My friend and I went out of the boat launch yesterday... the bite was slow and the fish on the cam were very finniky... honeoye is just a hit or miss kinda lake.  2 and a half to 3 inches of solid black ice... we fished until dark and the bite picked up a bit. Ended up leaving with 7 gills and a keeper basss
