has anyone tried the gulp maggots for jigging. I just bought some yesterday will try this weekend as i have 6-7 inches of ice. Just wondering how good they work i have used several different kinds of gulp during soft water and they worked great but that is gulp vs. plastics not live bait just wondering fellas help me out

I've had better luck with live bait, especially spikes over the gulp bait.

I carry Gulp! for back-up. Bait almost always works better for me.

I'll put a gulp bait on and a spike or waxie at the same time.......that way it's like a mini buffet down there and they can pick their poison.......works for me

I just got some of the GULP bait too ... figured it would be a good backup bait to the live bait.

Seems like thats the consensus here

I use them as well, same as above..only when the live stuff runs out. They do work really well, but like all gulp products you need to make sure you have completely sealed off the package when you put them away...they do not like air...I have ruined atleast 2 packs of gulp product due to lazy/sloppy sealing.

I used the gulp tan and pink maggies last year... had so-so luck on them - but was always better w/ live bait. I think like hali said, carry em for backup in case ya run outta live or can't get it

Gulp is very effective in the summer months but i havent tried them for ice. I think i will do as others and keep a jar of them in the box for backup. The one thing i dont like about them is they dont last very long and like ICE JUNKY said they get ruined quickly.

I used them 2 yrs ago. Pretty good luck that year with a lot of big perch but last year just couldnt get the big ones on the gulp like the live bait.

I too use both live bait and the gulp or other scented lures at the same time, and let the fish pick there preference.

I'm with Polar. I only use live but I sweeten them up. I dump out the pine shavings
that waxies come in and put them in course ground cornmeal or oatmeal. Then I
add a couple of drops of fish formula once a week. Makes a difference.

I havn't tried the Gulp maggies for Ice fishing yet but I just bought a fresh jar for just that purpose. I think it depends on what your after. I never tried them for perch as I've always had more luck with minnows than regular maggots anyhow. The bluegills however are a different story. There were several occasions where I outfished my buddy with the Gulp Maggots 2 or 3 to his 1. He was using worms and the smallest minnows we could get. One little trick that I use is to give the gulp magots a couple little squeezes, maybe even roll them between my fingers untill they are little softer. I think it kinda gets the gets the Juices flowing.

I use Gulp! and it works fine. I prefer live, but sometimes we get a big shortage of waxies or other live bait, so I probably use Gulp! most of the time. I have never done a side-by-side test, so I don't really know which works better. I would bet live works better than Gulp!

I haven't had much success with the Gulp either. Although I still keep some on hand as a back up just in case I run out of live bait.

I just bought my one jar for the year yesterday. I went with the natural nightcrawlers, so I can break them into little pieces.

I only use the real stuff, they never fail....actually just had to peel some 1 yr old ones off my Hali hooks...lol.

Last year I had a couple of times when Gulp! outperformed live, but most of the time a nice juicy waxie is hard to beat!

I tried these last year as well and had no luck with them. Live mousies is what I prefer. I do keep them in the box in case I run out of the live stuff.
