Snowing out. Almost white out. Wind picking up. 14 mph.

Tried to post up a video of some lakers on the camera but couldn’t. Only pictures. Sorry.

More later.....

And I do?!?  ;)  lol.

She got a chuckle from reading your post. Said thank you.
We actually have 3 grandkids. 13, 11 and 5 yrs. I knocked her up at an early age so we could enjoy ice fishing while we are still young later in life. Did the parenting thing. All done w that. :)

What a stud.

No I haven’t. Not even sure if it has been plowed out.

The road in and out and the lots were plowed as of last Monday...there is a snow berm in front of the ramp though.
Also an unusual “lump” of white ice where the ice meets the ramp too.
Maybe from the winds pushing the water up while it froze?

That’s usual there. A pressure crack.

Got one.

Almost had doubles. One on the motorvator and another jigging.
Also has a yellow perch and Laker fighting over my jig. Pretty cool to see.

Wellington was all plowed out very nicely when I was there the day I stopped in at your shack, little ice jam at the ramp but with this snow and the Argo you could get a smoother path beat in, whoever plowed it did a very touch up job even most of the parking area was cleaned up nice

Yes out here.
Caught #4 Laker and finally the perch. Got him filleted up and about to cook him for a afternoon snack.

Mmm...need a few of them to have a meal for one! But what a meal it is!
Did you see perch last season?
Never saw one on camera but did see a smally one day.
Love to jig some perch up!
They take the same offering as lakers do?

Just got home safe and sound. What an adventure! Ended the day w 4 lakers, 1 perch (ate him for a snack) and 1 cusk. All released except for the perch. I’ll “release” him Later
Ride back to the truck was a trip. Had to use Navionics so not to run into West Shore marinas bubblers at the dock. Complete white out.
Snow drift at my truck was deeper than my knees. Couldn’t really see  and when I drove on it, the tracks  of the Argo were almost level with my trucks window height.  Made me a bit nervous getting out but I have a shovel.
After getting the Argo loaded, the Tundra plowed through after  A few attempts. Didn’t have to shovel :-)
Thought I was going to have to spend the night in the Bob house but was able to make it home. Next time.

I hear you on the white out! Last season when we were heading back to Cummings by instinct on the sled during a white out I had to stop and check my phone with navionics and found I was headed back out between the narrows on the east side of Mayhew toward open water!
A quick adjustment south and we finally made it to the lot...scary!
Glad you made it home safe!
Now the deep snow will definitely hinder us getting the house out tomorrow...lots of plowing and snow blowing to do in the morning...

Great to see you guys out there.  It's been a couple years since I fished Newfound.  I'd like to do the derby there on the 10th and 11th next month, but gotta make sure my buddy will put his house out.  This summer I need to make one for myself so I can just set it up and go when I want.

Just got in. Plowed out Wellington parking lot.
I didn’t check the ice but heard there is 8” of black ice. Best to check it yourself as I plan to in the morning. Hoping to launch from there early in the am.
Gonna be extremely windy and cold tomorrow. Will be a rough one.

Thanks for plowing Jiggin!
We’ll be launching soon and if Wellington is good to go it will be a bit easier than from Cummings!

Chilly morning.

Had to bump my house 1st thing this morning. Drilled my holes and water came gushing up and flooded the area within seconds.
Now high n dry.

So far up to 4 Lakers. Missed several half way up to the hole then decided to sharpen my hook.
Seeing constant Lakers in the camera.

01/06/2018

Launched from Wellington State Park. No issues getting on or off the lake there. CH decided to stay home and do chores instead of dealing with the cold and wind while i went out to play.

Day started out with a bit of a dilemma, A pretty good size snow drift on the north end of my house had me worried about the weight and the sag on the ice. Drilled my holes in the house anyways and within seconds had 4" of water surrounding my house with the holes still gushing water. It was like I hit pay dirt on an oil drill except it was ice cold water flooding my house.
There was no real wind at that time so decided to bump the house about 30 yards instead of blocking it up and waiting for the water to freeze, Glad I did. Today the lakers were on fire. All day on the camera 1 - 3 at a time. All nosing down on my jig but they wouldn't commit, just kept teasing me. I don't think i went more than 15 mins without seeing a laker. I was finally able to eat breakfast around 1:30pm.

Ended the day with 7 Lakers and missed a bunch (visibility on the camera was very poor today) bringing my total to 11 lakers for the season. I was hoping to hit double digits today but the propane was running low and needed to leave the lake before 6 pm to get it filled up for tomorrow. Even while i was packing up i was still getting hits on my jig stick. Made it tough to leave. I had originally planned to have diner in the bobhouse but that got squashed with the propane situation.
All lakers caught on a Gold / Purple Kastmaster with cut sucker meat. Smelt did nothing today.

Tomorrows another day.......

sounds like a heck of a day jiggin ! I walked around a bit on the ice by Wellington with the dogs didn't want to brave the wind and trek out to see how you were making out, plan on fishing with my flip over this week out of Wellington searching for a spot for my new 8x10 , sold my orange shack the other night and immediately got on the phone with Jason to make plans for my 8x10 so I can get the girlfriend and kid out on newfound to enjoy the ice and lakers ! Keep your eyes peeled for the new and improved big orange should be out in a couple weeks
