Title: Little surprise on the tip-up. . .
Post by: Bassassins on Jan 19, 2013, 12:59 PM
“Flag up” I mumble to myself but we have seen a lot of weeds drifting down with the current, so I thought i might just be a snag. However, lifting the tip-up out of the water and seeing the line peeling of the spool, gets the heart rate going. I set the hook into some substantial weight and a vicious fight lays ahead of me.

The little line I gain just keeps slipping away from my hands as the fish torpedoes out for long, long runs.

It's clear at this point that this is no eye, but rather one of the esox brothers. Soon we get the first glimpse of the beast as a huge yellow eyeball glides by the hole.

At this point I thanked "Yesterday Rob" for using a longer steal leader than usual. My hand reaches in the hole and grabs her by the gills. Still full of spunk, a beauty 40” IceSky kicks through the hole, angry but healthy and fat.
