Thought this might be a useful thread to start.
Wondering if we can put a list of bait stores together. I like to travel around but it gets difficult to find bait sometimes. Or at least we probably go out of the way to make sure we have bait. So far this year we have gone to...
Newfound bait in bristol.... open at 7 am very nice shiners and smelt. $5.50 for shiners and 7.50 for smelt.
Alton circle grocery on rt 11 south of AB.... sells by 630 am ( probably early) same prices, bait wasnt as healthy and looked like the count was on the short side. But nice you can get coffee, egg sandwich, gas and bait in one spot.
Taylors in madbury off rt 9. Decent shiners good count and good variety of tackle. Not sure of his hours.
Suds n soda greenland off rt 33. Havent been this year but i bet they have bait now. They are ok all around tackle and food.
-
Pelletiers in Jaffery, 1/4 mile east on 202 from the center. Smalls, mediums, larges, and extra larges ranging from 3.50 to 8.50 a dozen.
The ones I got yesterday were nice and lively. Also plenty of gear and cold weather clothes too. Open 7 days not sure the hours.
-
F&G web site has a link to baitshops, coming to lakes region? go to martel's or AJ's in meredith. winnisquam market is decent too
-
Nutes trading post in Union. Right on Rt16
Tom's Automotive in Westford Mass 496 Groton rd ( rt 40 )
-
I agree with Cold....I got bait at Alton circle yesterday and it didn't look great, and I thought the two dozen I got was light a couple.
-
Nutes trading post has some good prices, small through large ranging from $2.75-$4.50.

In Northwood NH on Rt 4 The Country Market next to Heritage True Value Hardware has bait for sale $4.99/Doz shiners only and I believe they open 6:00am daily. They don't have many pinners, but med & large. Hope this helps.

I have had this happen as well. Last time I had to help the lady point out the smelts as she kept netting anything that was swimming.. it was a struggle..

Same thing this morning 2 smelt 4 shiners ??? I complained to the manager, but even she didn't really know the difference between smelts & shiners. Not that i like to nitpick, but when i travel ten miles out of my way every morning just to get smelts, I want what i pay for!
Anyone know if Amylynns
at Alton bay has smelts?
-
They didnt as of Saturday James.
-
who what and where is amylynns?
-

Amylynne's is the old busy corner market in Alton Bay. Hopefully they'll have bait soon. It's usually pretty good

Has anyone been to Screaming Wolf on Wasson Rd in Chester? No answer on the phones and Costa arms in Kingston doesn't have bait yet. I guess it might be 40 minutes one way to suds and soda.

A big thank You to You Sir!!!!! I know some of those nice ladies don't like scooping bait, Nevermind having some old crank like me squawking at them about the difference between shiners & smelt every morning. Lol That's going to make a huge difference! Thank You!
-
Well the guy that runs Screaming Wolf called me back last night. I stopped in this morning 38 Church St Chester (he moved). Large native bait 4 dollars a dozen. Self serve too.

Pete's Live Bait in Haverhill, NH has nice bait. The smalls are actually small unlike some places you go and they are more like mediums. I like smalls for perch fishing he also has very large shiners for Pike fishing and mediums of course. Suckers are there but they can be hit or miss he does not always carry them. Didnt see many posts for this area so I thought I would add to the discussion.
-
This is a pretty usefull thread. Maybe one of the Mods could sticky it up at the front, so I don't have to go find it every time I think about going to a new area of the state?
Please :)

Odd I put all this and more in an excel... pm me your email

Newfound Grocery in Bridgewater, NH has tip-up suckers, large suckers, shiners, smelt, salmon eggs, worms, crawlers, and spikes. They also sell licenses and OHRV regs. It's a great one-stop shop. They have a small amount of basic tackle in case you forgot some hooks or split shot. Open at 5am every day. Gas, beer, food and cigs. The bait prices are the lowest around.

This is my first post, but admittedly a littel self serving. I own Upper Valley Outfitters here in Lebanon, and we have bait as well. small/med shiners, suckers (call on those), and some really nice pike and bass bait for the Conn. River in the form of creek chubs. These things are tough! I don't have smelt at the moment, as the demand has not been there yet for us. I like to think we are competitive on price, and I guarantee you wont get shorted!! We also have spikes and night crawlers. Also, we have the basic tackle in stock in case you need something. We open at 6:00 AM on Fri - Sun. and are open every day but Monday (I gotta fish at least once in awhile ;) Thanks, and hope this helps all the guys and gals fishing in the Valley.

I was there this morning at 6 for some smelt. Got two punches on my bait card - one for a dozen smelt and another for it being my first time to the shop. What a hell of a guy going out of his way to cater to ice fishermen. He will have my business all season long. 24x7 bait - can't beat it.
-
Martel's in Laconia on Bay Street. Good bait at standard pricing, accessories are VERY high priced here so hit the Wal-Mart at exit 20 or in Gilford for all your hooks/sinkers etc. needs.

Bait shop on 28 in Hooksett
I'm not sure the name of this place but it used to be Steve's. Great shiners...pins and all sizes. Suckers... smelt etc etc. I don't know their hours but I think they live on the premises.
You'll see the hand painted sign for BAIT around the side of the building toward the back.
It's directly accross from Riley's gun shop in Hooksett.
Riley's address is:
1575 Hooksett Rd.
Hooksett NH
-

Go see Ed at Squam River Bait Shop. His bait is always hardy and lively. He traps himself and is a wholesaler and retailer. It's much better to support the guys that are also sportsman.
-

I usually use Martel's in Laconia but when I went yesterday I was at his door at 5:55am and at 6:20am there was still no one there...they post their opening hour as 6:00am, but he screwed me up yesterday...had to go back to Winnisquam Market in the opposite direction to buy bait.
This has happened to me in the past as well...don't know if they're just damned independent or what, but I got a late start because of them and wasn't happy about it.

George and EDs in Rochester, gets bait next week.

If travelling up route 106, someone has a live bait sign up at the rt. 129 intersection. be on your left as you drive north
