Flathead ice conditions
« on: Feb 10, 2019, 09:54 PM »
Going to Polson Thu thru Sat.  I hear ice on Polson Bay is 8 - 10".  How about Big Arm Bay out to Wild Horse Island? Yellow Bay and Blue Bay?

East bay may be about the only safe ice on flathead.  Lots of other lakes fairly close though, that all have good ice.

I don't get what you said here. Do you mean the ice is that thick? Somers bay is iced over and the guys are out on it as well.

Perhaps he meant fishing over shallow water?  I've never fished East Bay, but isn't it the access where you have to walk upwards of a mile to get beyond the mud flat and into deeper water?

If by deeper you mean 5', yes :) lots of people drill their first holes into mud there.

I believe he was refering to the original post in which someone mentioned 8-10" of ice...
I haven't been out there yet this year but plan to go saturday.  I really doubt there's 8-10" of ice, as its only been frozen for maybe a week.

Intend to be on the ice Sat if it's safe to do so.  That 8-10" from the OP was given to me by macman when I asked about ice conditions.  I think he gave me the size of perch he was catching lol

Getting hammered with snow in the Pass right now and it's been in the -20/-30's for a week and a half.  Going to like the warmer air................... .fishing or not.

Warm and windy here right now.  I'll also be out saturday as long as its safe ice. I'll be in a red pop-up eskimo.  Stop by if you see me out there.

Was on Big arm this morning.  6-8" of good clear ice, with a few inches of frozen slush on top of that.  This stayed the same as far out as I cared to walk.
