What size Eyes ya chasing??? Great Lakes hotspots may require 3/4 oz, smaller inland lakes the smaller sizes.... or your body of water could change by the day as to the size required. No easy button here for ya... start in the middle and experiment.... ;)

I'm fishing Hardy Pond of the Muskegon river in MI, they range from 14" to 30" lol

I'm thinking a 1/4oz might be a better choice tipped with a minnow but I have no idea of the size these things are so I'm just guessing. We usually use a #7 Jigging rap.

 I'm pretty noob to ice-eyes.

I would drop down a size or two at this time of the year. Hog Eyes in there for sure. If the water is cloudy, size up.

Good luck, and show us some pics this Monday!!

Unfortunately I wont be there till next weekend. My stepdad lost a monster last night though. He went out and bought new line today lol.

I think the water is pretty cloudy where they are fishing though.

i worked for northland tackle when i lived in bemidji and most of the guys there use the smaller ones, 1/8 oz seems to be the ticket.

Where we fish, its 3/8. The 'eyes love it, big and small.  If you go smaller you just don't get the hits.
Still counting.....

Hey Stump...   :nono:, Uh,er I mean...
 >:D
If you're working 40-50FOW during the day - a 3/4 isn't too much.
I usually will use the 1/4 Oz. in tighter - but deep, you need to get down there on the same day...LOL

I use the biggest one available and usually big walleye will come and hammer them. Just make sure you use a rod thats built to handle that heavy lure and get ready for some big walleye.

Just like some men say size is not what matters its how u work it....right haha but anyway its true with ice fishing yes there is to big but you will be fine with 3/4. just jig the sum gun hard tell u start marking fish on your flasher and then slow it down alot and even let it sit still for a few moments. The point of a buckshot is to make lots of noise to lure the fish in from a distance once they come it you have to slow it down or hurry and get it out of the water and drop down a very fin s style lure.

Big Fish, Big bait !

You are trying to simulate a dead or dying baitfish, the size is not as important in my opinion, as the action.

How many times have you been surprised by the size of a dink Walleye or Pike that hammered a bait that was "too big" for them?

Go big.

Wiener
