Nice 39” Pike to kick things off.

Hi all,

Got on the ice for the first time for the 2023/24 season. There was 6” of clear black ice, surprising given the mild weather. Got a couple small walleye and missed a few bites too, but the pike was the highlight, 39”er on  6lb test.

Thanks Steve, I honestly thought the pike would snap me off. It was a last minute decision to go fishing and I didn’t have any of my gear ready, just grabbed two rods with last years  line and jigs still attached… lol…lucky.

 Viciouscircle you are welcome. Going by other videos and fish stories i seen posted since joining ice shanty and talking with other fishermen over the years. It seems to happen quite often that the day you get a big fish on your line it is with equipment not suited for the job of playing and landing /catching the fish. So as you did in your video have to take your time and let the fish tire some hoping your line does not snap or hook work free before you can land the fish . May the northern pike be the start of a good ice fishing season for you.
