Do you talk to yourself?
« on: Dec 05, 2007, 10:39 AM »
Last time out I realized that when I fish alone, I barely can get a word in edgewise - well maybe not that bad - but I realized  that I do talk to myself, and the fish on the vex or cam alot.  I am a heckuva listener tho too, so it works out OK.  Not normally a self-talker.  How about you guys? - pay attention next time I bet you will be suprised.

Noticed this last yr when I had a lake all to myself, for the whole day.  Best conversation I've had in a long time.
Happiest when on a frozen lake!

I tend to view it this way....

Talking... is like asking for something... if it works for you prayer

Listening... well that is another thing all together.... you have to listen very carefully for the answers... or if it works for you.... Good Orderly Direction.

I find myself listening more on the ice ..... the peace of the situation lends itself very well to that.

Of course every now and again I curse a bit.... I'm only human.

All the time. Only thing that scares me is when I answer myself.
Then again sometimes I like to sit in a closet and have a battle of wits with myself....problem with that is I never know who won  :)

My wife says I don't listen to her so I talk to myself to see if I can hear myself. I know the fish don't listen very much when I say hear fishy fishy.

I'm not talking to myself, I'm just thinking outloud.  Of course, I'm not crazy either, just uniquely eccentric.

j/k, I've noticed this also over the years.  Perhaps it's just the outward expression of one's inner dialog that's always been there, triggered by the solitude, to protect yourself from the dangers of being left alone in the company of one's own thoughts.  Of course I may be full of bologna as well.     ;D

I find that I call myself outloud on bonehead moves.  For example,  "Way to go, moron." when I dropped a pair of forceps down the hole last year.

I've invested in long shoestrings to tie everything dropable to a bucket.

Why did I set the hook so soon? Way to go dumb#*s!

What the f**k am I doing out here in 0 degrees and 30 mph winds, and the fish aren't bitting, when I can be drinking beer and watching the football game? I must have s*#t for brains!!!

How the h#ll can a zippo bounce 3 times and then find the hole? This is bulls#*t!!!

And so on...

May ol man winter blow a cool breeze up your shorts!

frustrated/stressed= talking to slef, then it's also usually swearing, like when i lost my whole fly line. when totally alone it all seems to stay in my head. lots of conversation up there though. just not out loud.

Whew !!!! I never brought it up before because I thought I was nuts. Well I am nuts but thats besides the point. I carry on conversations out there, talking to tip ups, jigin rods even the bait. I do it when other people are around too. The bad news for my equipment, bait and people around me is it gets magnified by 10 after 3-4 beers add a knock or 2 of Jameson and my feinds say it's hysterical because I start breaking my own balls.

its usually the most intelligent conversation i have all day!!  so make that a def yes....and not only do i talk to myself...how about having a good chuckle with yourself...there are def some funny things going on out there in the wilderness that make for a good har har...even when by yourself...and its usually when i do things like spend 5 minutes freezing my fingers off tying a hook on only to then realize that I didnt thread the line through my eye hook first......so its a little cussing at myself then just a good laugh.....

yes - it helps me to verbalize my ideas when I am trying to figure something out and it makes me feel better to cuss out the fish.

Not only do I talk to myself, I laugh at my own jokes the hardest. Matter of fact in most cases if it wasn't for me , no one would think my jokes were funny!

Sometimes at work, but most often on the ice. Most common phrases: Set the hook you idiot! What are you waiting for, a telegram? Pay attention you moron! They are all forgotten, usually after these phrases: Easy big fella, Watch the edge of the hole! and hopefully:Yeah, that's what I'm talking about!
