My Fall Schedule is begining to creep up on me. Here is what I gotta get done before first ice.
Build 10 more traps.
Design and build a 4x6 portable shanty.Pics and blueprints will be posted as the build comes togather.
Order tons of glo jigs and pray I can hit the thursday night crappie leauge.
And of course prepare the the wonderful freezing temps of the winter.. Doesn't sound like much but it will prolly take me the entire fall to get this stuff done..

Hey buildit Where are you putting your shanty this year????

I'm pumped for this coming ice fishing season. i am just about done with the shanty. we attached it permanently to a small trailer i picked up this past spring and we remodeled the inside. i have new flouro leaders and hooks tied onto my new jack traps. and i just picked up a nice jig stick (retail $39.99) for $8.99 at mardens :). the only thing i have left to do is pick up a pack basket, maybe a new bait bucket, register the trailer, put new gas in the auger, and finalize some plans to fish in jackman for the first few days of the season. i can't wait.

Ahh yes it is augut and with that comes the end of our summer and then we all begin the yearly ritual of getting our ice gear ready !! since i used my portable more than my permanent last year im gonna but my 8x8 hardside on lake arrowhead for  comfort and convenience for the thursday night crappie league.we had a lot of fun last year with that and expect this year to be just as good if not better.i got my own 4 wheel drive truck this year so independence is once again mine.i have also thought of building a portable on my small utility trailer but have decided against it for the other uses of my trailer i would give up. if i find a good deal on another small trailer i still may do it but for now just fine tuning the gear i have will keep me busy!!

Hey scott are you planning on hitting sabbattus much this coming winter? Last night I cut all the aluminum for the floor of the portable I am planning on building. and from the looks of things I am looking at a 75 to a 100 lb skids and floor so it shouldnt be too much for us to pull around. Jdeere9800 is taking our old 8x8 out to moranicook this winter so I am not expecting to fish that very much (unless I get an anchorin for lake trout). Crappie and Pike is on my focus list for this winter..

Man, I can't wait for ice fishing to get here... Fall is great... bowhunting, football, birdhunting, bearhunting, halloween candy, riflehunting, thanksgiving, muzzleloading, Christmas, playoffs....ICE-FISHING....

between tuning my bow, re-fletching my arrows, cleaning and sighting my guns/scopes, setting my stands and building my blinds... I'll barely have time to restring my traps, sharpen my auger and get my shack painted...

life is good...

I dont know for sure as of yet but I will find out and maybe we can make a weekend out of it. The shanty guys hitting it at my old shack. I still will have all the use of it that I want so I could definatly make it happen.. Jdeere9800 is moving out to a house on the lake out there next month and God willing he will get his house sold in lisbon. This winter is gonna be great guys between sabbattus, Buker, and Maranacook I will be a busy man.. Plus I gotta try and hook up with Billditrite as much as possible.. This will officially be my last winter in Maine. I leave the Navy next april and am prolly heading south to Kentucky(no ice) or Florida(no ice)..

thats too bad this is gonna be your last winter in maine. how long are you going into the navy for? i am going to college next year and one of the things i was looking for was a school where i could go ice fishing wen i don;t have class. so i am applying to the University of Maine at Fort Kent  :).  not only do i have the fish river chain of lakes ( eagle lake is right down the road) but glazier lake, and the lakes in the allagash are not that far away. its gonna be a good four years.

I have been in the Navy for 7 years now and will be 8 in april when I leave. I got a great job offer in Kentucky so I am prolly taking that and besides its closer to my real home.  Its scary to think that I may be leaving the ICE..  Anyway your plans sound good to go to college close to a lake or a bunch of lakes.. That is great study time just waiting for the traps to go off.. LOL..

I'm trying to come up with a portable shelter I can build myself, just a light floor and some tarp that can fold up into a one man shelter.  Good portables are 300 bucks, and I've got 2 in college this yr so little money for my stuff.

I'm working near construction dumpsters full of good building material though, so can build something strong, light, and cheap.

Saw some good shelters of that description on this site last yr.

Good to see a little activity here, MFF hasn't been too interesting this summer, not a complaint as I haven't offered much input there myself.  Just haven't found any sites as good as this one.
