I caught a perch 2 weeks ago and saw it had a hole in the side off it, looked like someone drilled into it. Is that a tape worm hole?

They do.  The little white ones in the meat are some other type of worm/parasite.

Those are parasites,They attach themselfs to the fish
I have seen them on perch & walleye, harmless as long
you deepfry the fish. The next time you go fishing take
a  really close look at the surface of the fish. But on the
other hand we have here in MI. is some sort of worm
inside of the meat of the perch, when you cut the perch
open you will seen that the some of meat looks like its
cooked, throw the fish away, dont eat it.Does anyone
know more about this.

We see alot of the worms here in vermont as well. But it was the first time this year that my buddy found something that looked like a tape worm but was red? Does cooking the fish kill these things?

i personally think everyone is getting a little overexcited about worms. if you really looked at some of the fish we eat on a regular basis, you would likely become a vegetarian. look at flounder & sole (saltwater)--they eat seal poop which is fact. orange roughy, sea bass, perch, northerns, walleye and any other specie of fish. while some parasites live in the intestines, some migrate to the flesh. if you start looking, you'll stop eating. my two cents  grumpymoe

the worms that you see might be the lavae of certain types of clam which live in the flesh of some fish mostly the fish which feed in the muck found in sediment

Tapeworms are found in the stomach and intestine it is always a good idea not to break open the inards into the flesh or they might contaminate your fish fillets

We had this convo about black spot(black grubs), Yellow grubs and white grubs last year. Its harmless to humans. I read in one publication that suppossially 1(one) human being got them in thier mouth but probably not from the fish but from drinking  water that had the parasite in the water (example pond water) not public drinking water

gonna make it as short as possible since ive already got probably 4 long posts about this grub thing on this site somewhee. A fish eating bird (heron, kingfisher, commorant etc) eats a infected fish (visable in the skin/flesh)    the parasite goes through a cycle in the bird and then is released back into the water in the birds fecal matter or when it dips its beak in the water to feed, the parasite then attacks a snail goes through another cycle and leaves the snail and finds a fish to infect,  then the grub is either consumed by a human or eaten by a bird which wwill continue the cycle

cetain lakes/ponds will be infested more than others do too weed cover and amount of certain types of snails i dont believe all types of snails are prone to the parasite

Ya as a rule of thumb i don't eat any fish that i might find not so pleaseing to the eye when i catch em. Those ones i let the gulls eat. (well when its perch that is) I don't like tossing them back in the water either because well who knows if its a contagious thing or not. WEll unless its ling then ill just scrape away. LOL darn Fishermanjake i think ill be taking a alaska vacation next winter. Those darn ling looks so nice there.

Yellows are the nastiest fish to swim the waters. It seems like they are always wormy, but I haven't bothered to check in years.
Now White Perch, that's stable tablefare.

to get rid of ALL WORMS in the fish just freeze a 0` or below for 24hrs
this kills ALL THE worms inc THE ONLY one that may harm you the TAPE WORM
most can not live in your system,i checked this out because i pickle herring
and pickling DOESNOT KILL ALL WORMS, BUT FREEZING @ 0` FOR 24HRS does
RAT ;D ;D ;D

Unless you guys are in the habit of eating your fish raw, you never need to worry about any worms or parasites.  Just cook the fish until the flesh is flaky, and that will kill anything!  But like Riverrat2 says, freezing will also kill parasites, so if you store the fish for a couple of days or so in the freezer, you could eat it raw then.  Naaaaah........

Uh......please pass the hot dogs....yeh, that's it, I'll just have a dog please.

Ever heard the expression "He'd eat a horse turd if it had scales on it"?

Just kidding, I have heard and believe that YP are good, but can't get any big enough to bother with.  I like jigging them while waiting for Browns, though.
