I went out to Iron Creek Lake with a buddy today. There was 8-10 inches of ice. We fished from noon until 4 pm. We caught two nice sized rainbow trout. We were using wax worms. We fished in about 28-30 FOW. We had a lot of nibbles, but could hook em. It was a fun day on the ice!
We tried Newell Lake this morning, but there was a 40 mph wind up there. So, we decided to head to Iron Creek.

Walleye on Newell aren't hitting until night right now from what I hear...

I've been fishing Iron Creek since the 10Th of Dec.and everywhere on the lake has been productive.
It has slowed down a bit since the 10Th,but it still is producing. You're right about waxies.Try using a small teardrop.I find there easier to hook with the small teardrop.I'm new to the area.I live in Spearfish, and get up there a couple times a week.
