Dirty Jobs
« on: Nov 25, 2008, 10:23 PM »
To anyone that may be interested , Dirty Jobs is going to be doing a show on The Forked Tree Ranch and their maggot cultivating . It is supposed to air on December 2nd on the Discovery Channel .
The Forked Tree Ranch raises maggot's < Spikes > for wholesale to bait dealers .
Thought it would be interesting to see the process and work the really goes into raising such a disgusting little creature . lol

Thanks for the heads up on the raising spikes show. I'll be licking my chops watching the show. They sure are tasty little critters LOL.

I'm sure a lot more goes into those stupid little critters than one would think .
Optimal temperatures , food , storage containers , smell  lighting and getting the spike colors to change to the desired colors .
It should be interesting .

Thats a great show, thanks for the heads up!  I also liked the one where he was catching catfish with his bare hands by letting them bite him and grabbing them!

I seem to be able to raise them all summer long.  Just wait an extra week before taking out the trash!  :-\  Wish I knew how to keep them.

Was talking with a guy last year and he said the guy he knew who raised them was using dead turkeys from a turkey farm and would run them thru a woodchipper to get the desired slurry. That has to be one of the stinkest jobs anyhow.

it would be nice if he got out on the ice to show all how they are used by ice fisherman.. thats pretty cool, can"t wait forthe show.

Only problem is when ever he does a cold show (like the Greenland Shark or the car through the ice retrieval shows) he whines about how cold it is all show long.................. ................what a wuss!!!!!!!  ;D

I wouldn't think it would smell too bad with the climate control they would have to use so the maggot don't pupate .
