The skin from a perch works good also, just a small sliver is all it takes. I've caught trout, perch, crappies, walleyes and a crawdad on a tipped kastmaster.

I don't know why perch love perch eyes, but the first keeper perch I land, the first thing I do is pop and eyeball out, and I don't go the rest of the day without an eyeball on my lure.  It works (for me) better than spikes, worms or belly meat.  I thread my hook through the connective tissue without popping the eyeball, and they last a long time.

I caught a lake trout a few years ago, I popped the eyeball out and put it on a tip up, 5 minutes later gat a fat mac out if it

I use a large paper clip for popping the eyes out.

My nickname is Perch Eye, and my wife's is Walleye. We both are offended and quite frankly scared to go out on the ice at this point.

I finally got a chance to try the paper clip trick and it could not be any easier than that! Great tip!

Actually I think I can make it easier. I'm going to take a chain saw file and sharpen the edges of the paperclip so it cuts them out better.

I make my own out of a bobby pin and 1/2" wood dowel.  Simply form a 180 degree curve into the pin by wrapping it around a 1/2" diameter wooden dowel, then epoxy the bobby pin ends to a 2" long piece of the same dowel.  Works extremely well.  Takes a second or two to extract an eye.  I'd post a photo of it but I'm not computer savvy enough.  Anyone wanting to post the photo, I'd send it to them.

I always thought I needed a special tool to get the perch eyes out until I saw a video of a guy that simply put his finger in the perch’s mouth pushed out on the eye and wallah you can take it out easily with your finger nail or even a popsicle stick. So I tried it and it’s simple.

Yep, and I find it easier to hook the eye before it’s fully detached from the perch rather than fumbling with a tiny slimy marble.  Also, the handle end of your ice scoop is a handy way to dispatch a perch prior to eyeball removal.

Using jigs that resemble eye balls works too. Then add some maggots, worm, and some scent. The best of all worlds.
