Checked Canadice lake this afternoon, South end froze over, most of the lake is still open! 26 Degrees! Slight wind!
If it is not windy tonight,I think it will lock up! Next week should be good! Looking forward to jigging some smelt!! I can stay close to shore that way!! Lakers will come later
Stay safe,
Gary

Checked lake again today, Still open Need Cold calm night!!! Gary
-
Thanks for the report .
I was wondering if you were going to show up here this season .
-
I've never tried Canadice on the ice, but love it from my kayak. Is the road to the launch passable without 4WD as long as there hasn't been a recent big snow?
-
Still open as of noon today . 30 degrees That road is plowed year round!
-
Good to know I can get to the water. Now I just have to hope it gets cold enough that I can get ON the water at some point this year.
Thanks.
-
Canadice starting to ice over on south end 20 degrees no wind
-
nice , would love to know what its like by the time the weekend rolls around
-
Just starting to ice over? Looking at the short term and longer term weather, it looks like this weekend might be iffy, and the ice might be gone again by next weekend. I really want to try Canadice, but not bad enough to risk a swim. Hopefully, some more reports can build my confidence, or I'll be the guy two feet off shore tethered to the nearest tree with a rope!
-
I will check it every day Want to get into the smelt!!!Lakers will be a while yet!
-
i seen tire tracks by 15a boat access ramp yesterday ???
-
Lake froze mostly over from canoe launch south. Most of the deep water is still open. 7 degrees at noon 1\22\13
-
I checked the lake today around noon. had 3 inches of ice close to shore. less father out. whole lake is froze over.
we should be able to get out for smelt this weekend or next week It is 6 degrees out now It will still be a while before I will get out in the center of the lake for lakers.
Gary
-
wow, cant beleive theres 3 in...black ice? how far off shore did u walk? should freeze at a decent rate with these temps
-
It has been two yrs of waiting to get some smelt. Finally, some good news. Thanks
-
hope to try to fish some laker's this year
-
Checked the lake again this afternoon . There was about 2 inches of ice. I drilled four holes. think i will try to get some smelt sat. night.
I went off the boat launch. but remember there is a creek to the right of the launch stay safe
Gary

what depth do you guys usually get the lakers at in canadice? i've seen guys out in the middle of the lake before and can only imagine they're jigging for lakers

Deepest parts of the lake best for me for lakers. Lakers can be just about anywhere suspended in the water column - from right on the bottom to 10 feet below the ice. Have a chart or flasher really helps.
-
last time i fished there was for pickeral at the south end 10+ years ago i gotta newbie this weekend and am looking for the combo of fish and not a lot of snow to walk through with convient bait shop. There used to be one just north of the lake in a small town Is that shop still there? or am i off my rocker. normally i would take him to sodus for perch but i have some back issues so i cant handle the trudge through the snow like i used to.
-
There is a bait shop link at the top of the page with a map.It says there are a couple 3 miles south of Conesus Ifishy.
-
You can also have good luck sight fishing along the weed edges using Sutton spoons or other flashy flutter spoon with no minnows.I know you have some of those.I have had great success doing that and it's a blast.
-
GT, any update today? im headin over early sat mornin west side in the middle someplace prolly, anyone else gunna be out there? or if somone wants to meet up, someones meetin me at 10 or so but im gettin there at 7 prolly
-
ive spent some time on the bait shop map and saw the one south of conesus if i can get a answer to my phone calles that there open than i will be fishing conesus this year i come from east of there though so its a lot of extra driving to canadaice. when i dont have the newbie and i wanna try to trout fish thats a good option. i know when i used to fish there i would always end up pulling a pick or two up on a swedish pimple but something about flying flags and running to get them always gets the new guys hooked. I got him into trolling seneca this year which was cool so if i can get him into ice fishing its a year round fishing buddy.
-
Went to lake with my son last night for some smelt.
ANYONE KNOW A RECIPE TO MAKE A FISH FRY FROM ONE SMELT????
Fish were turned off.
At least I did not get skunked!!!
I was hoping to get four so I could say I got a few!!!LOL
Thats why they call it fishing!!!
Gary

is there a boat lauch and a canoe launch? my wife bought me a canoe for my birthday last year and this is one of the lakes I wanted to try it on im just curious if there is more than one access point
-
Anyone do consistently good on the brown and rainbows through the ice on this lake? Tip ups a couple feet under the ice in deeper water or in shallower 30 to 15 feet? Lakers aren't tough to find (getting them to bite sometimes can be a challenge sometimes though) however, I am looking to ice a brown or a rainbow. Any help? Thanks!
-
There is a canoe launch 1.5 miles south of the boat launch. It is where the Thick marble bench is>. Guys get rainbows and brouns as well as lakers in both canadice and hemlock lakes
Gary
-
fishin for browns and rainbows has slowed down in my opinion in these lakes, but just the way you said shiner or smelt just below the ice, up to 20 ft down or so
-
A friend of mine does very good on Hemlock with tip ups in shallower water 10 ' - 20 ' just South of the boat launch ! He gets mostly Browns with an occasional Rainbow ................ Pickeral can be a problem at times too. Bait of choice for him is bass minnows ! I'm looking to jig up some Lakers with my new Marcum LX6 probably at Canadice ! Keeping my fingers crossed we get some better ice soon !! Good Luck Huntyeraws I know you get the Lakers now go get some Browns and Bows ......... ;D
-
Hey PerryT
I would like to go to canadice with you sometime! for lakers, I want to compair your Marcume to my Vexlair 20!!!

Unfortinetly the Ice at the boat launch is only 1.5 inches thick!!!

-
How big do the lakers get?
-
I've heard of 20 + lb. Lakers coming out of the lake!!
And NO I did not see any smelt, water wasent DEEP enough!!!LOL
-
Nice. They fight better in the winter don't they? Im the spring/summer they are like logs.
-
Thanks fellas. Gonna try and give it a go in the AM for browns and bows on the NE side I am not sure if the deeper water is ready again yet. Will see tomorrow how much ice she has made.
-
Keep us up to date on conditions plz. Looking to head down Sat for lakers then over to conesus at night for crappie. Thanks for the post
-
Just got back from checking the lake! looks worse than yesterday!!!!
Starting to think we might NOT get on again this year!!!!!
Lots of wet spots all over the lake!!
Might still have a chance on the North end!
Hope for the best!
Gary
-
OK, my buddy can't go with me in the morning, anyone looking to try it in the morning with me from the NE side? I will be there at 7AM. Send me a PM if you want to meet up.
-
Fished the north end yesterday. Made it out to 58' of water ice was 2.5- 3" had a few lookers no takers.Ice was pretty sketchy.

-
Pony thanks for the report, Still looking to make it out Saturday but will wait for the locals to chime in first. NY jigger offered to take me to show me the ropes during the week. Might have to take em up on offer for next week if i don't get out
-
well plans haven't changed, Heading there in morning and learn my way around. Spud in hand life jacket on and friend in tow in-case things go arye. Wanna meet up let me know

Ice is going to be very sketchy, use extreme caution. Lot of rain here today and now snow on top of it
-

It didnt snow it rained here most of the day, just a heads up. The ice will be skecthy at best. It is snowing heavy now and its not that cold out so it might not make much more, if any ice tonight. conesus is fishable if you dont feel safe when you get there, so you dont waste a trip but as always use caution there as well, as there have been many conflicting ice reports about conesus. stay safe and good luck  :icefish:
-
thanks for all the concern, Sure i wont be the only one out and i will use caution, Can always got to honeoye or conesus if not good. Again thanks and hope to see someone from here out there. Goal this year is laker through the ice. will post tm what and how i did.
-
This lake is special as there are no cottages on this lake and there are very few houses along the perimeter of the road. If you get into trouble, you may get yourself into a heap of crap real quick. This lake drops off very fast in most spots, if you have never fished it, please use your head as no fish is worth dying for.
-
Again guys thanks for the advise, Have been doing this for well over 30 years and know how to handle the ice, When you are not afraid to stop on the ice that's when you get in trouble . Just got done checking survival gear. Waterproof matches,Pocket lint, boot Spikes, Mustang, 50 ft rope, Change of clothes and a space blanket, Might even wear Inflatable PFD over Mustang. Wish me luck. Not going alone either helps too
-
Good luck let us know how you make out today. Wish I could be out there. Have too wait until Monday. Stay safe.
-
Well Here is the scoop, Arrived about 8:30 at launch on east side. Geared up , Buddy called in a ditch, reload pull him out and back we go. Spud are way out to 68 ft. Ice 3 inch black, 1 inch crust 2 inch slush, 1 inch snow. All the smelt you want. Kept some for tip ups deployed them and started jigging. Had a flag go, Fish on. At about the half way point in the fight the line tangled around my feet. Fish gone. RATS. Hooked and lost 2 more. Ice was 2.5 to 3 inch where i was and definatly had to spud out to get there. Cold nights should tighten that slush up for you guys. All in all had good day. Left went to honeoye, Kept 15 Perch and 10 bluegills. Was out of Trident about mid lake. Good luck to all and STAY ON TOP
-
Cheacked lake today .20 guys on ice all over! Most on north end. One on north west side. All the slush was locked up Guys were saying 4 inches good ice in most spots. But they found some to be only two inches. Lots of guys been there for smelt from the looks.
Stay on top

Glad to hear you made it out safely and had some action. I cant wait to get after them lakers, its been well over a year for me. No offense taken by any of the post, like you said we are all just looking out for each other, after all its hard to get the tone of one's voice through a screen and keyboard haha!! No one wants to hear about anyone going through thats for sure, good luck to all on the rest of the season and stay safe!
-
Fished out of the boat launch from 10-2:30 poked my way out towards the middle. Ice was about 3 in.Some spots were very punky. Just jigged got my best Laker of the year so far 29" 8-9 lbs. Also got my smallest about 7" thought it was a Smelt lol. One other hit. Mark very few fish. Fished from 82 -84' beautiful day out there.
-
Headed out in the am will let you know.
-
Keep usup to date Jigger would still like to hook up with you this week if possible to try again. FYI figured out why people that fish one of the coves use pop up instead of huts. That walk down to lake sucks for a bigger sled. Help two people pull there's up the hill when i seen them struggling on my way home
-
Went out north of boat launch last night for some smelt.Decided to put out a few tipups for a brown or two.Didnt catch a brown but got a nice 10lb laker in 8 ft of water.Thought int was a brown at first because of the way he faught. The smelt were hit and miss but all in all was a great nightUsed lights on my tipups was cool to see it flashing

I've never been to canadice before. Where is there access for pan fishing?
-
It's not really known as a panfish lake. Smelt are popular targets.
The official boat launch is on the east side about mid lake. I think the road is called Canadice lake road. It gets deep fast here so maybe not the best panfish spot? There is another access site on the south end of the lake and there is a good bit of shallow water there. A good number of pickeral but as I said before, not sure how the panfish bite is.
Hopefully the ice holds.
Good luck.
-
if ya want good panfishin head to conesus or honeoye. Canadice isn't much of a panfish lake like stated before
-
anyone know how the ice is holdin at canadice? was tryin to go sat one last time but dont know how sloppy/safe it will be with these warmer days
-

Lol head to south end...enough said
-
Is there any ice left after that warmup ?
-
Nothing that I'd bee fishing on
-
It's been good and cold the last couple nights, just thinkin for sat or sun it might be good if the ice was still there after the warm
-

Seeing as the majority of other lakes around here are now 75% open water and they had more ice then canadice i would assume it is open too. Im taking boat out at conesus tomorrow to hammer those huge slabs. Fish on!
-
Thanks I wasn't sure, I'm almost 2 hours from that area. There's still options for the weekend..

-
This is the only local place I've heard people jigging smelt (tullibee). Are there any other lakes that have a decent, easy to catch population?
