Anyone know how the ice is looking and how the fishing has been above and below the lock? Was thinking about heading out in the morning.
-
There's plenty of ice fishing has been ok
-
Saw photos of some nice walleyes caught earlier this season there.. in the dark.
-
Awesome, thanks guys!

Any fish?
-
New to ice fishing here...quick question. You actually fish on the river. I've never seen anyone out there.
-
Not on the river.. the canal. Water is not moving through there this time of year
-
I always fish up top on the boat launch. Always catch a bunch of pan fish , I'm going to try the lower part of the lock next week
-
Thanks for the info...I'm looking to add some new places to my list. Where do you access the canal?
-
When your going to the boat launch you come up to that stop sign at the bike path crossing , has a little parking area and if you look towards the river you'll see the trail. A little steep if it's slick out
-
Thanks!
-
One more question...ever fish the vishers ferry side of the canal?
-
how was the clarity means alot
-
Not sure about that side of the river I just fish the bays . Water clarity. It's the Mohawk it's always like milk !
-
Well it doesnt help that sewage has been pouring in for god knows how long. :%$#!: ...
-
Anyone ever get into any pike here?
-
i have had people tell me they have got pike but have never seen one
-
Seen a few photos of a 38" pike caught below lock 7 about a week ago
-
I caught a pike near lock 7 over the summer
-
fished the river all day today.Five perch 3 blue gills 3 strawberries one bass. Not a flag on tip ups all fish jigged were small.
-
I fished out from the boat launch at lock 7 for a few hours yesterday morning and only caught one perch on the tip ups, didn't attempt jigging.
-
Anyone been out recently?
-
Thinking about it Monday. Should have ice
-
I think I'm going to give it a shot tomorrow and see what happens.
-

Why would you quote one of my posts from 2017 ? I normally hit the boat launch a couple times a year. It’s only about a mile away from my house.

It was early.
-
Lol yeah I see.
-
Have you been out yet this year?
-
No , I went once to check ice a few weeks ago. I was going to go and drop some pike bait but I forgot my bucket in the back of my truck and it turned into a frozen block of bait fish.
-
Are the Pike and Eyes hitting yet?
-
Drove by the lock on Wednesday, looked sketchy for sure.
-
Lol I bet the little ice it has is covered in rocks and sticks . I might check it out this week. I live about a mile away
-
Nice! I’ve never fished there, but heard some talk about fishing the Mohawk backwaters
-
It’s alright. Nothing great. The deepest spot up top of the dam is around 10 feet in the bay off the boat launch. Mostly little dink perch and I’ve got little crappy. I don’t fish it much because I wouldn’t eat anything out of the Mohawk. The water is always mucky. I have seen some nice eyes and pike come out in the summer but nothing crazy.
-
A buddy of mine got a fat a** 29 inch walleye jigging right on the wall below the lock 2 years ago in the summer so I would have to disagree about the "nothing crazy" comment

The problem with lock 7 is the ice is sketchy once your outside of the bay with the current. Does the river hold nice fish. Yeah sure I’ve got tons of eyes out of it And pike well over 30 inches. The problem is your limited to the small bay thats 2-4 feet deep muck bottom with one 10 foot hole. the lock channel below Freezes but also gets sketchy around the outlet. I think it’s around 15 feet deep. I don’t think the lower side of the dam freezes good enough to be safe. I’ve seen fish come out of the ice but I wouldn’t say it’s a prime location but guys do catch fish every now and then.

Old post but seeing if anyone has tried the area this year and has a recommendation for place to park or area to try that freezes well.
-
Have not been there this year. I imagine the bay with the boat launch is good to go especially after last night. Below Lock lots of construction/dredging spoils last time I was there Dec. 11th. No access. Lots of parking at the boat launch. I have caught small northerns , perch sunfish in that area.
