The channels around Syracuse iced over pretty good. It's going to be gone but it started! A perfect year is the last day of muzzleloader season is the first day of good ice.

I thought about driving out Sunday to check the front bay of Loomis. I'll bet it was at least covered with skim ice.

A bunch of the Kankakee River backwaters were iced over this weekend. I fished one for a couple hours on the IL side of the line yesterday morning. Didn't catch anything, but it was fun to say I was on the ice in November. ;D The edges were pretty thin, so it took a while to find a solid spot to get on, but out in the center was 3"

With the weather turning up the way it is, I'm sure they'll all be back to open water today or tomorrow.

Wow that had to feel risky.

I wasn't really planning on going through, but I also wasn't terribly worried about it. I know that area well, and the water was all waist deep or less back on the tail end where I was fishing. Once the sun got up over the treetops I skedaddled out of there before it got mushy.
Out toward where it meets the river has some deeper holes, but I wasn't gonna go fooling around out that far on such early ice.
