A lot of interest in them here. For fishing they are great especially to keep your core warm. Hunting they give off a smell.

I have several,I even have a kidney warmer,it a wide band of cloth that wraps around your waist and has two pockets over your lower back, keeps your core really warm on the coldest days. I haven't used them in 40 years.

I got one for christmas. Its sweet. Can get VERY hot! I keep it in the front chest pouch on my FXE bibs and keeps my core warm all day. I can even fish without a jacket in a bit colder weather than normal if i have it. For ten bucks on sale its a steal. Buy a bottle of charcoal starter fluid and your good for a while. Its much cheaper than zippo fluid.

when i use mine, i use colman fuel/white gas. much cheaper than lighter fluid
also own the the jon-e hand warmer and its a lot bigger and hold more fuel.
they are too hot (burnt my jersy gloves a few times) and not needed any more with shanties and disposable hand warmers that you can put in a zip lock bag and reuse.
i have 2 cases full and hand them out to those who don't have shanties and are cold

best way to use these is pull some wadding up towards the opening when new. put some fluid in it and on the wick and light it on some thing flame proof. let it burn off.

3300:  How much white gas do you put in them, same amount as the zippo fluid?  Do you put fluid on the steel wool part that is exposed?  I am having trouble with mine.  My dad has had one forever and would let us kids use it when we were hunting in the winter.  I remember that thing getting really hot for a long time.  I bought mine a couple of weeks back and have tried it a couple of times.  It barely stays warm and only for a short period....

Thanks in advance for any advice!

You use the filler cup to the fill line.

I bought one this year and for the what reason I have not been able to get it to work?

I follow the instructions and I can't get it to light through the cap cover but can light it when it's off.  As soon as I put the cap cover on it burns out.  I am using zippo lighter fluids but the fluid it's a couple years old.

I use the Hot Hands chemical warmers.  The problem is; I don't like buying disposable, throwaway things.  I have been wondering about the Zippos for years, but haven't found any, but haven't really looked either.  Do they have an odor?  I remember using those solid gray things in the red velour case when deer hunting as a kid.  They smelled terrible!  No wonder I hardly ever saw anything.  If the Zippos don't stink I may try it.

There is a slight smell but nothing like the old jon-e hand warmers. They stunk!

I have two as long as you leave them in the bag they won't smell and you won't get anything on your hands. I found the trick to lighting them is to squirting a little fluid, and I mean a LITTLE fluid, on the fuse when you go to light it, it will flame up but will die down when the fluid burns off but it lights every time that way.

You probably think they are out, but they're generally not.  They are only supposed to pretty much smolder,  not be a flame.  Even when smoldering it sometimes looks like it's out.  Opening and closing it releases all the heat.

I have hard mine about a month now and still haven't used it. I filled it up but I think lighter fluid goes bad after a while.

These warmers are catalytic. They heat best when in the protective bag. Take a look at them in the dark. You will see how good they glow.

You can't fill and leave them. The fuel will evaporate. Fill just before you are going to use it. Have had one for over forty years and still love it for the amount of heat it produces.

They have very minor odor hardly noticeable.. And I have seen them at Meijers for I think $19.00? I put one in shirt pocket for a go to hot spot.

Good enough to know its there... It's just a good mild core warmer for me. for keeping my hands dry after unhooking a fish I just put them over the lantern. (single mantle coleman propane) its awesome!!
