Ice houses, how long on the ice??
« on: Apr 20, 2006, 01:41 AM »
How long can/do peope leave there houses out around here?  Haven't really payed any attention for the last 24 years.  Was out running the dogs tonight and noticed that there were still 2 houses near the guaging station.  Seems like I'd want to be getting my stuff off the river?

The Tanana Drainage Regs state that all ice houses must be removed from all bodies of water by April 30. Latest I ever drove out to retrieve one was April 29 on Birch Lake. That was a bit on the scary side.

WE still have lots of ice left up here, even though its been in the 60's during the day and 30's at night. I will be not testing my luck and putting my truck on it but the fishing is still good on some lakes. It means we just have to walk out. Most poeple wait til the ice goes out from the edges and the fish start cruising the shallows. Should be happening soon.
