The winter carnival folks were busy this weekend harvesting ice for the ice carving competition at the end of the month.
Seems the ices is still pretty decent on the big lake.

I remember years ago summer fishing on Lake of the woods seeing these big remote pole barn type buildings and asked what they were. I was told they were ice houses. They cut ice blocks out in winter bring them into these ice houses and pack them in saw dust. The ice lasts all summer to pack fish and keep fresh for commercial fishing ice.

On our local lake - Chautauqua, the town of Mayville, New York cuts ice blocks so they can build a ice castle for their Winter festival. Cool thing each year.
