Well guys... here ya go. I saw a bunch of people doing the galvanized paint tray for a cooking surface.. WHICH IS DANGEROUS... and decided I could do better.
I utilized Adventure Time Outdoors video and compiled my step by step process.
I used a "meant for cooking" camping "Smore's" maker from Coleman which is $7.88 currently at menards.

Here is how I cut, bent and fit one half of the smores basket. Technically if you don't screw up you get 2 cooking grills for $7.88 (Give one to a buddy) The smores basket has recessed pockets perfect for holding brats or for heating 2 cans of soup/chili/coffee etc.
ENJOY!

Sweet!!!
-
Thanks for sharing your idea and all the pictures!
-
Nice! Looks like you could use/mod that handle portion as a support brace if you needed one, too.

I think my beer would get too warm.

I think my beer would get too warm.
Meant to thaw frozen brew ;) And All I had to show that it was capable of cooking soup cans weight wise. :P
Cheap and easy... stainless to boot... so dishwasher once in a blue moon and done.

Nice setup but I don't like hot beer

No one likes a frozen one either :)
Looking forward to trying it with some chili-cheese brats and/or some soup.
Even solo trips by myself it will be nice to recharge with a Dinty-Moore or some other cheap meal-in-a-can etc. and have warm food vs. a frozen sandwhich in a bag.

Neat idea.

As a follow up... Worked like a champ... And was a tasty treat to have grilled chili cheese brats on the ice vs a half frozen sandwich... Next up soups.(https://i.imgur.com/GwQKZ0i.jpg?3)

Great little hack, I made one today, thanks for sharing!

Nice

That's nice! Great idea and it definitely looks like it's going to work out nice!

That time of year.... DON'T make/utilize galvanized paint trays/racks.... they are dangerous...
Stainless, actually meant for food/heat contact/ and available also locally. Nows the time as 'summer' items like this are most likely on clearance at your local menards etc.

You could probably get 3 or 4 of these grates by cutting up an old oven rack.

Did same type of grill on my big buddy heater with fixed handle the handle melted with a coffe pot on it.. just a tip to be carefull.. the fixed handle can't be tipped out of way.. like some of the smaller buddy heaters can..
-
THAT is A GREAT IDEA THANK YOU SIR

Made one yesterday for myself. Worked great. I made mine so it sits in the holes in the red part. This allows it to sit in the holes on the back of the heater, and a bungee cord will hold it pretty flush for storage.
