I was in HL a short while ago and drove down by the public access on the south side. Shore ice looked good and there was a ton of people out there plus several full size trucks. Next weeks warm weather will hurt it with the wind they have forecast and the nights are not going to be that cold. I heard this morning from someone out there that there was 16 inches of ice and it was slick.

Was there today. 15". Shore ice was peeling back a little bit towards the end of the day. They were still running trucks out all day.

Everybody started near shore (south side) and gradually pushed out into the lake as the day wore on. Bite was slow all around, pulled a few hammer handles on tip ups was the best we did.

It rained here most of the night and the wind is whipping outside. That is going to really hurt the ice

Yikes.. We had lots of wind down in the southern part of the state too. Got up to 40 plus mph gusts supposedly

What's the ice like on your lake, Missaukee?  Usually make at least one trip up there every year.  Didn't make it up this year, but was thinking about a quick trip, before the ice was gone.
I have not been on it since before the rain but then there was over 20 inches of ice. They pulled all the shanties off and it froze up real good here last night so I think any water would have frozen solid. Houghton lake they said yesterday it was ice shanty races. I saw one report that said the pressure cracks opened up bad from water running into them and in many places the shore ice was bad. If anyone is planning on this weekend it may be wise to call ahead to check ice conditions . I think there will still some ice but it may be hard to get on and walking only. If I get over there this week I will check it out at a few places and report what I saw

I just went down to the south shore boat launch this morning.  Shore ice looked sketchy at best and there wasn't anyone out.   All shanties have been removed.  I was out there Monday and there was 12".

I saw a picture yesterday from the middle grounds when the shanty holes had opened up to 8 to 10 foot wide and we covered with skim ice. The west launch has open water. I talked to my neighbor last night and he lives on the lake. He said in front of his place the shore ice was pulled back away from shore. He put every thing away yesterday
