Lost Grove Lake
« on: Dec 11, 2013, 11:32 AM »
Has anyone been out to try lost grove lake? Its not too far from me and was one of the places I plan on hitting this year. Not the biggest lake but I bet there are a few gills in it.

there are a million gills in it.  i'd venture a strong guess that ice is fine there.  we've nto seen less than 3" at most places in the qc area and that was 2 days ago.

there is a pretty fun ice fishing tourney there in february.

I'd say there are more than a million in there. You can catch 6.75" bluegills and hybrids until your arms fall off.  :roflmao:

The obvious areas are the ones to check out first. The trees on the southwest area is a place to start. Put the jig on the bottom and do single reel handle turns until you find a "zone". Also, there is a chute between the upper and lower lakes- no water going through yet, but maybe 40 yards from the road (west) has a little deeper water. Be advised, though, anywhere on that small lake is like a wind tunnel. If you're fishing solo, stake your stuff down or you'll be chasing it... Good luck.
When is this water gonna freeze!?!

Thanks for the advice. I'm gonna hit it bright and early tomorrow. Will have a report on how it all goes. Will try to post some pictures possibly.

4-5" of solid ice. Caught a few but nothing big. Didn't venture around too much. Wind was horribke and I am without shelter right now.

Are guys fishing on the main lake yet? Or just the retention-type pond west of the main lake?

The fish in the "main lake" should be about 2" by now. They stocked 1.5" bluegills and 3" bass, as well as a couple dozen 7" musky last spring/summer. But there were some escapees that got out of the little lake last spring when the water was flowing. That little creek had some medium sized gills last summer. I'd imagine there are a small handful of catchable sized fish in the main lake basin.

Just some info on the lake I scanned

West end

Middle section (little to no water, not worth fishing)

East part of the main lake, has a little water and some fish. Not worth fishing

Whole lake

May seem like an extremely dumb question. But what are you considering the main lake. When I was out there I fished what is called the west end which was the only water I seen. Am I missing something?

You fished the west end lake. The main lake has not filled yet, everything on the east side of the road you parked on will be a big lake in 10 years. About 1/2 mile east of where you fished, down by the dam, there is a small puddle of water where they stocked some little tiny fish this spring. That is the "main lake".

Fished LGL for an hour today, never marked a fish. I walked almost the whole lake.. never seen a one.

Talked to other guys out there as well, one other guy said he never marked a fish all day and a guy there earlier popped 50 holes without marking a fish.

Good ice though, solid 5" of black ice about everywhere I drilled.

So BBK you are saying that the tournament will be easy to win, simply catch a single fish?
Every plastics manufacturer claims plastics outfish livebait. So now I use livebait just for the increased challenge.

HND & I fished it last year, we took 2nd overall and took home biggest fish.  We weighed in our limit of 30, I believe we had 9 Crappie and the rest were gills/sunnies.  Missed 1st by a few ounces.  It's a great tourney, and we look forward to doing it again.

How big is that lake? Looks like a person could fish the whole thing in a day.

Any recent updates on Lost Grove Lake?

The water level looks much better than when the lake was built a few years ago.

the western section looked like it recently froze over.
The Dam boat ramp area was inaccessible due to road gate closed.

The middle boat ramp section had about a half dozen trucks parked and people fishing out there.
