Thanks guys

And ya im in whitinsville and its all locked up but the thickness isnt there yet maybe 2-3 inches and id much rather drive for a little more. If we dont get hit with a ton of snow the ice should be ready early next week i think

I’m also in Whitinsville .... I wouldn’t abandon the area just yet; if it’s got 2-3” right now IN my personal opinion  it’ll be OK Saturday. I’m not an expert but checking again Friday won’t hurt

With an average daily temp of 25 degrees a pond will make about .75" ice in 24 hours....

Thanks Cslater. I was actually thinking about posting a question regarding ice growth. Excellent info to know.

Go to the web site http://lakeice.squarespace.com/ice-growth/
There ARE a lot of variables- and no one should risk their life on this assumption- but it shows that ice CAN grow pretty fast early in the season as long as it stays cold.

X2. Definitely not used as an exact measure but it sure helps you determine if it’s worth it to drive somewhere an hour away

I was out in Rutland on the north part of Long Pond last friday. The cove to the west was anywhere between 5-7". I expect a little more now. I'll be going out tomorrow morning and could give you an update

Main lake had people on it today. My friend and I took a small party out this morning on the side by Whitehall in the cove again. 7” in the cove, 4 1/4” where the cove meets main body up there. The rest seemed maybe 3 but there’s the spillway making it a little sketchy, but there was someone out there alone

Yeah I drove by on my way to catch bait. I personally haven't had much luck in that cove.

Haha that was me and my friend. He runs a guide service out of oakham and we took a small party out. If you like chain pickerel, you’re in luck there.
