Title: Wyoming Bragging Board Question Thread
Post by: wyoutdoors on Dec 02, 2018, 06:32 PM
Hey guys! appleye PM'd me about the possibility of a 'Wyoming Bragging Board' thread to keep track of the great catches you guys have in the Great State of Wyoming! So we're looking for some input here. If there's enough interest I'll start an 'Official WY Bragging Thread' and appleye will be in charge of the administration of the thread and entries. So far...

1) All fish caught on the ice in Wyoming
2) State where the fish was caught
3) Must have a picture of the person holding the fish on the ice and a picture of the length with some sort of measuring device, yard stick, tape measure etc
4} Any kind of fish allowed

Anything else?

I agree with Trent and I would add that we keep it Wyoming fish only....

POk3s I agree must be caught in the present. How do we show when caught? Time stamp of some sort?
"State where caught" means lake in Wyoming.

I think just as long as it's explained in the initial headline it will be fine.

I think "state where caught" meant to explain where caught....not the actual state hahaha

You guys get the "rules" ironed out and I'll start an official thread in the stickies at the top of the board so it doesn't get lost too deep in the forum. Will there be a limited number of fish categories? Or just anything goes?

Rules:
All fish to be entered are caught on the ice in the state of Wyoming 2018/2019
Any kind of fish allowed.
To enter include photograph of the fish photographed on the ice outside by the person who caught it, include a photo of the fish being measured with some sort of measuring device, ruler, tape measure etc... Include the the lake and date fish was caught.
Have fun!

Prize: Bragging rights until someone catches the next larger fish!

How does this look to everyone?

Appleye lets make the end date later for those of use who have fishable ice into April. I would just say the 2018-2019 ice season then next year make it the 2019-2020 season and so on. I really like the idea though and hope it works out.

This ^^^

Make it easy. If you're on ice, post it up.

Also, if it's a "bragging board", should we just make a threshold of a certain size to post??

For example, id rather see a gob of lake trout over 10 lbs, compared to someone posting an 18 lber and nobody posting another because they can't beat it.

Same with all the perch over 13", rather than only seeing a few!

I completely agree with trent I want to see all nice fish caught in wyoming not just the biggest one or two of each kind a year.

By the way Trent you should have stuck it out this morning the sun is out and all of the roads are melting off now you could be out chasing those 13" perch instead of sitting by the fire dreaming about them lol.

It's a bragging board.   If I catch a 3" fish on a 4" spoon it's worth bragging just like a 30" fish would be.

Yes, were imported as a food fish not sure where they became trash. They can pull like a freight train. Kind of like some people pass up nice Young Bucks and Bulls to shoot a big one you can hardly chew. Never have figured out how to cook the horns.

.   Not gonna judge but some folks call that herd management, if everyone shots every dink buck they see what’s left in a couple years ? If your out for meat there’s plenty of opportunities across this great state to harvest does and cows. Please let them grow. I’m a Wyoming native and have sadly watched so many young bucks with potential get shot for 20-30 pounds of meat.

What you're proposing is called horn management not herd  management.
If someone's only getting 20 pounds of meat off a deer they need to be charged with wanton waste. Potential for what to grow horns? I am all for maximum Hunter opportunity.  Increasing the number of older age class males  lowers Hunter opportunity. When they start charging more for tags in Trophy units I may be convinced otherwise but until then I'm for maximum Hunter opportunity and I'm not concerned with antlers size which provide nothing but bragging rights. When male to female ratios increase above certain levels reproduction rates go down and reduce Hunter opportunity. I've been teaching several young people to hunt and they're having a hard time drawing tags. I think units like unit 31 for Elk as an example a bull tag should cost at least $1,000 it should be a once-in-a-lifetime hunt no one should get to do it twice until everyone gets to do it once. And as a once-in-a-lifetime hunt it should be worth more than $1,000 I believe the 10 non-resident tags they typically give out there could be sold for $10,000 a piece and Wyoming is not maximizing the value of those trophy animals. Nothing else that the state owns is sold for less than maximum value. I haven't shot a buck or a bull in years. I always buy the tags but generally just shoot females for meat.
