guys, it is the certifiable saskatchewan  all tackle  record walleye ( any season)
and it is as well the certifiable world record for ice fishing for walleye. this is a done deal and cannot be disputed ( so we should probably stop trying and get back to sharing great fishing info like you guys do so well!)
there are even line test world records . in about 20 different line test catagories.
we should give the guy a break , as you will read in the paper he is donating any of the proceeds from the fish ( and it could be considerable , seeing as it is the world record ) to charity and is giving the mount to the university to display and make money for the school.
This guy did everything right , he has witnesses and has a government tag for the weighing in . Anyone that says they could have done things better to make it certifiable is wrong.  phone the guy from silvertip outfitter he can verify the guys catch and even goes further by saying the father deserves it because he puts in alot of hours out on the lake.
I know if I could I would head to Tobin next weekend and try to catch a hog just like that one .   I might even say a prayer or two .
have a good day.    good fishing to everyone.

Well said man. I don't think everyone is trying to discredit it,
just wanting to clearify the "world record" part.
I was there when Geni pulled his record out of Tobin and
I did see the last one too. I belive that both where returned
to the water, but also were summer/fall catches.
Yes, the father deserves all the credit and accolades
he gets, the donating part is a nice touch.

just another note about the world records for ice fishing .  I remember going to a wildlife federation derby at black strap back in the eighties and a man named Tom Sotnikow from Saskatoon caught a 39.12 pound pike from the north end of the lake and at that time it was the world record pike for icefishing . It was convenient to have the swf right there to do the weigh ins  and needless to say Mr. Sotnikaow won the tournament .   It was about the Same Time Peter Serienko wrote the article on wednesdays for the star pheonix ( A man I truly miss who taught me more about fishing than anyone )
    tight lines, saskafishman.
